Rhet Wierzba

Rhet Wierzba begins his second season on staff at Indiana State in 2014-15.  Wierzba came to Indiana State after spending the last three seasons with Mercer University in Georgia.

Wierzba helped coach the Sycamores to their first Missouri Valley Conference regular season title since 2005-06 and second-consecutive WNIT appearance. At Indiana State, Wierzba is in charge of recruiting and development of post players.

He assisted the Bears in turning their women’s basketball program around over the past three seasons, as Mercer improved from eight combined wins from 2010-12 to a 20-12 overall record in 2012-13 and a trip to the postseason for the first time since 1984-85 with their appearance in the Women’s Basketball Invitational (WBI) last season.

Prior to Mercer, Wierzba was the director of operations at the University of Maryland from 2007-10. He also spent time with Evansville Men’s Basketball where he spent two seasons (2005-07) as their director of operations. He got his start at his alma mater, Austin Peay, spending one season with the Governors.

As a player at Austin Peay, the Governors won back-to-back Ohio Valley Conference titles while he was in uniform in 2002-03 and 2003-04. Wierzba went on to play professionally in Mexico and Canada before deciding to join the coaching ranks at his alma mater.

A native of Farmington, Ill., completed his master’s degree in science in health and human performance with a concentration in sports administration at Austin Peay in 2005. Wierzba and his wife, Tiffany, reside in Terre Haute, Ind.
