2023-24
Avila missed the first two games to open the season, the sophomore started each game the rest of the season (37). HeĀ improved in all but one category from his freshman year. AvilaĀ moved into ninth in single-season scoring with a team-high 644 points on 53.6% shooting from the field. The center shot 39.4% from deep and 80.8% from the charity stripe, grabbing 6.6 rebounds per game and 4.1 assists per game. Averaging 17.4 points per game which led the team, he averaged nearly 10 more minutes per game in the year span. Avila tied former high school teammate Jayson Kent for the single-game scoring high of 35 points, where he helped clinch a share of the regular-season MVC title in a victory at Evansville on 14-for-24 shooting. Avila scored 20+ points 12 times in his sophomore campaign, helping secure his spot as ISU men's basketball 42nd player to reach the 1,000-point club with a total of 1,007 points. Adding to his accolades, Avila was the lone Sycamore selected to the All-MVC First Team, earned the MVC Championship All-Tournament Team, and was given the nod on the NIT All-Tournament Team.
