Beginning his first season at Indiana State University as a defensive assistant coach is Scott Cassell.

Cassell played for two seasons as a member of the Sycamore football program. He saw limited action after battling an injury in 2005, after sitting out the 2004 campaign as a redshirt.

He was a four year letterwinner at West Vigo High School where the linebacker was a Class 3A All-State selection his senior season as well as an All-Region 6 selection. In previous seasons, he was a Class 3A Junior All-State selection and received The Humphrey Award as a senior as the Most Valuable Player in Vigo County. Cassell was named the Vikings' Most Valuable Player in 2001, 2002, and 2003.

Cassell tallied 371 career tackles and 1,700 yards rushing while scoring 30 touchdowns over his Viking career. He also competed in track and field where he lettered two years.

His father, Dave, is a former head coach at West Vigo High School.
