2008: Appeared in 23 games, starting three for the Sycamores. Was 0-2 on season. Struck out 21 batters in 25.2 innings of work.
2007: Made 27 appearances on the mound, starting two games. Struck out 31 batters in 40 innings pitched. Had 2.92 ERA. Finished with 3-1 record.
2006: Made 15 appearances on the mound, recording eight strikeouts.
2005: Appeared in eight games and made three starts in first collegiate season before having season-ending surgery. Threw 15.2 innings and posted eight strikeouts with only three walks. Made first collegiate start against Concordia and went a season-high five innings giving up three runs for his first victory. Threw scoreless frames in relief against Lamar (March 4) and Northern Iowa (April 2). Also started against Eastern Illinois and South Dakota State in which he did not earn a decision despite two ISU victories.
High School: Played four seasons for coach Jason Brandt at Wapokoneta High School. First Team All-Western Buckeye League selection. Named first team all-district and all-region. Four-time Legion all-star. Also lettered in basketball, one year, and cross country, two years.
Personal: Born on Feb. 21, 1986, in Lima, OH, the son of Gerald and Kelly Varno. Majoring in Social Studies Secondary Education. Plans to teach after college. Enjoys running, golf, tennis and basketball. Has brother, Tyler.
