Casey DeGroote begins his second season as volunteer assistant coach at Indiana State and serves as the team’s first base coach as well as working with the team’s infielders and catchers.
DeGroote, a native of Terre Haute, Ind., was a prep standout at West Vigo High School from 1995-98 and earned all-state honors as a senior. Following his senior season, he was drafted in the 11th round by the New York Yankees and played in their organization from 1998-2001. In 2002, he moved the Minnesota Twins organization and spent time at spring training with the team. He wrapped up his playing career in the Frontier League in 2003 and 2004 with the Rockford Riverhawks and the Kalamazoo Kings.
After finishing his playing career, DeGroote joined his father, Steve, on the coaching staff at West Vigo High School from 2005-07. He has also worked several baseball camps at Indiana State and worked the Midwest Baseball Camps from 2004-05.
Degroote is currently pursuing a bachelors degree in exercise science at Indiana State and is set to graduate in May. He and his wife, Danielle, reside in Terre Haute with their two daughters, Corynn (5) and Kyarra (2).
