Indiana State University Athletics

Terms and Conditions of Aid

INTRODUCTION

This agreement is intended to clarify and serve as the standard for the responsibilities of each student-athlete and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. This document contains many important terms and conditions but all are focused toward two basic themes: (1 ) The student-athlete attends Indiana State University for the primary purpose of obtaining an education and earning a degree, and (2) to become the best possible student-athlete and teammate within his/her potential.

The University and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics MAKES Institutional awards on the foregoing premise and the student-athlete ACCEPTS Institutional Aid on the same premise.

I. FINANCIAL AID

A. In accepting this Tender of Financial Assistance, the recipient certifies that he/she is aware that any earnings from employment and any other financial assistance from sources other than that provided for in this award must be reported immediately to the Director of Compliance.

B. Financial Aid may only be awarded in a term or session in which the student-athlete is in attendance as a regularly enrolled undergraduate, unless certain NCAA exceptions are met. Any renewal of a scholarship or grant-in-aid award shall be made on or before July 1 prior to the academic year it is to be effective. This scholarship does not imply or guarantee that you will receive a similar scholarship beyond the term stated in the scholarship.

C. Maximum permissible financial aid may not exceed the value of a full grant-in-aid, as defined by NCAA rules and regulations.

D. A student-athlete is not permitted to receive financial assistance other than that administered by the institution except that financial assistance may be received from anyone upon whom the student-athlete is naturally or legally dependent. (There are special provisions, based on NCAA regulations, concerning financial aid awarded to a student-athlete where athletic ability is not the basis for the award.)

E. When financial aid is awarded to a student-athlete and athletic ability is taken into consideration in making the award, such aid combined with other aid the student-athlete may receive from other certain scholarships and financial aid (including governmental grants, for educational purposes) and like sources, may not exceed NCAA limitations.

II. CONDITIONS OF FINANCIAL AID

A. Athletic financial aid MAY NOT BE INCREASED, REDUCED OR CANCELED during the term of its award based on the recipient's athletic ability or the student athlete's contribution to a team's success. Athletic scholarships cannot be written for a period exceeding one (1) academic year.

B Athletic financial aid MAY BE REDUCED OR CANCELED during the period of its award if the recipient:

1. Does not satisfy the stated Institutional, Conference, and NCAA academic requirements for like scholarships or financial aid.

2. Renders himself/herself ineligible for intercollegiate athletics competition or who loses his/her amateur status.

3. Voluntarily withdraws from the team.

4. Fraudulently misrepresents any information on his/her letter of intent, financial aid agreement or application for admission.

5. Competes on a team which is sponsored by an agency or group other than Indiana State University during the academic year.

6. Fails to compete during a split season. The recipient is expected to compete during both segments of the split season.

7. Violates Indiana State University, athletic department or team regulations and standards

8. Is found in possession of a firearm or deadly weapon on campus or while involved in team practice, competition or during team travel.

9. Is found to have participated in any gambling activities prohibited by NCAA rules.

If an athletic scholarship is reduced, canceled or not renewed, by the athletic department, the financial aid office of Indiana State University will provide the scholarship recipient written notice of said action that will contain all rights and procedures available to the recipient to appeal such a decision.

III. CODE OF RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE STUDENT-ATHLETE

Each student-athlete enters into an agreement with Indiana State University and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics that the student-athlete will obey the rules and regulations of an academic and non-academic nature and will observe the standards expected of all students by the University and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. Indiana State University agrees to furnish professors, classrooms, libraries, and laboratories to the student-athlete so he/she may achieve his/her potential. In addition to the standards expected of all students, the student-athlete is expected to observe those standards established by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics for all student-athletes. These expectations are available in the Student Athlete Handbook and from the coach of each sport. The Department of intercollegiate Athletics expects student-athletes to abide by the rules of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, to observe standards of public conduct, and in general, throughout the student-athlete's involvement in athletics, and do so in a manner that will reflect favorably, not only upon the University, but also on the Intercollegiate Athletics Program, team, coaches and themselves.

When the student-athlete violates standards expected of student-athletes either by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics or by law, the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics has the responsibility to take appropriate action. The student-athlete may file an appeal of any adverse action taken against the student athlete by the coach, athletic department or university pursuant to the procedures set forth in the Student Athlete Handbook or the Indiana State University Code of Student Conduct.
