TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State football continues the 2026 season on the road this weekend as the Sycamores travel to Eastern Illinois on Saturday, September 12. Kickoff at O'Brien Stadium is set for 7 p.m. ET with the game to be carried live on ESPN+ and 105.5 The Legend.

Saturday night's contest features the 92nd meeting all-time between Indiana State and Eastern Illinois and the eighth in the last 10 years. Eastern Illinois holds the 46-41-4 all-time advantage in the series, while Indiana State has won four of the seven in the
Curt Mallory coaching era, including last season's 38-14 win against the Panthers at Memorial Stadium.
The Sycamores built a 17-0 halftime lead last season on September 6, 2025, as Indiana State utilized strong early play from quarterback
Elijah Owens (9-for-10, 67 passing yards, 1 TD, 50 rushing yards), before an injury put
Keegan Patterson on the field. The Sycamores continued to ride the momentum with Patterson going 11-of-17 for 111 yards and a pair of scores, while
Braxton Sampson and
Logan Wilson combined for six TFL, 1.5 sacks, and a forced fumble in the win.
The Indiana State win snapped a two-game losing streak to EIU, including a 27-20 defeat the last time the Sycamores traveled to Charleston, Ill. and O'Brien Stadium.
Against the Ohio Valley Conference
Indiana State has lined up against four current members of the Ohio Valley Conference, including their 2026 season-opener against SEMO two weeks ago. The Sycamores have an all-time record of 66-78-4 against current members of the OVC.
The Sycamores fell in the season opener to SEMO on August 28, 2026, as Indiana State was unable to rid their second half momentum in falling to the Redhawks, 23-21. Trailing 17-7 in the third quarter,
Elijah Owens turned it on with a touchdown pass to
Jayden Reed, before setting up a second Indiana State touchdown with a 43-yard completion to
BJ Wuest to swing the advantage back to the Sycamores with the 21-20 lead. However, Indiana State was unable to answer a late SEMO field goal in taking the season-opening loss.
Indiana State is 41-46-4 all-time against EIU, 5-5 against SEMO, 1-1 against Tennessee Tech, and 19-26 against Western Illinois.

Indiana State quarterback
Elijah Owens is about to enter rare air in the Sycamore career annals as the redshirt junior quarterback is on the brink of becoming just the eighth player in program history to sit in the Top 10 in both career total offensive yards and career passing yards. He enters the weekend against EIU with 3,628 career offensive yards (10th all-time) and 2,733 career passing yards (11th all-time) with sights set on moving even higher this year.

Indiana State has found a new big play receiving threat in freshman
Jayden Reed as the wide receiver heads into the third week of the 2026 season looking to continue a touchdown streak. Reed hauled in scores of 25 yards (SEMO) and 45 yards (at Purdue) over the first two weeks of the 2026 season and leads the Sycamores with seven receptions for 114 yards on the year.
Reed is one of three Sycamores to score their first touchdown in the Indiana State Blue & White to date this season, joined by running backs
Ashton Hayes (SEMO) and
Max McCool (at Purdue).

Big Play Threats
Two games into the season and the big play potential from the Indiana State offense has never been more apparent as five different Sycamores have recorded a catch of at least 40 yards this year. After
BJ Wuest (43) and
Torey French (42) all posted long receptions in the opener against SEMO,
Jayden Reed (45),
Thomas Amankwaa (55), and
Tyler Nansel (41) also eclipsed the mark this past Friday at Purdue.
Just six wide receivers combined for 13 receptions of 40 or more yards in the 2025 with
Rashad Rochelle accounting for eight of them.
