TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State saw its three-match win streak snapped Friday night, as visiting Bradley defeated the Sycamores in three sets (25-20, 25-16, 25-21) in the Missouri Valley Conference opener for both teams.
Curry Kendall led the way for the Sycamore attack with seven kills and a pair of aces, while
Taylor Knuth added six kills.
Avery Hales dished out 11 assists, while
Emmy Sher led the Trees with eight digs.
Set 1 | Bradley 25, Indiana State 20
Indiana State got off to a slow start, as Bradley scored the first four points before
Corinne Knapp put down a pair of early kills for the Blue and White. The Sycamores worked their way back into the set, taking advantage of Bradley errors to go in front by the media timeout. Kills from Kendall and
Ella Scott had the Sycamores on level footing, but Bradley scored seven of the last nine points to claim the opening set 25-20.
Set 2 | Bradley 25, Indiana State 16
Similar to the first set, the Sycamores faced an early deficit as Bradley claimed eight of the first 11 points. Two kills from Knuth got the Trees within 9-5, but that was the closest Indiana State got in the set. Bradley led by as many as nine in the set, and went on to take the second by a 25-16 margin.
Set 3 | Bradley 25, Indiana State 21
Unlike the first two sets, it was the Sycamores who got off to a strong start by winning the first five points.
Macy Lengacher served two aces in that span, while the Trees continued to take advantage of errors from the visitors. Bradley came back to even the set midway through, before kills from Knapp and Kendall put the Blue and White back in front near the midway point. A pivotal three-point run for the Braves just after the media timeout proved crucial, as Indiana State never led after that point. Despite kills from Scott and Kendall down the stretch, the Sycamores dropped the third set 25-21 to fall in their conference opener.
