Sycamores place eight on the Phil Steele Preseason All-MVFC team

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Headlined by First Team All-MVFC selection Nic Yatsko, the Indiana State football team placed eight on the Phil Steele Preseason All-MVFC Team as announced by the organization on Monday afternoon.
 
Yatsko was the Sycamores lone First Team selection as the Freshman All-American safety returns to the field following a standout campaign. The Jerry Rice Award finalist was seventh in the MVFC in tackles per game (7.45) despite not earning a starting role until midway through the season.
 
Yatsko took over the starting nickel back role in the Sycamores' 4-2-5 defense and capitalized with a nine-tackle game against Montana, while adding a career-high 14 tackles, 2.0 TFL, 1 FF, and 1 FR in the Sycamores' win over SDSU. He wrapped up the season with a seven-tackle, 1.5 TFL, 1.0 sack game against Murray State and added a fumble recovery and two QB hurries. He finished the year tied for third on the team with 6.0 TFL and was second on the team with five QB hurries.
 
The Terre Haute, Ind. native was joined on the list by seven Sycamores honored on the Second Team with KeShon Singleton (WR), Drew Page (OL), Jayden Childers (DL), Xavian Andrews (DL), Sebastian Lopez (PK), Carson Weed (LS), and Torey French (PR) all receiving recognition.
 
Singleton returns to the field as the Sycamores' top receiver as the redshirt sophomore finished second on the team with 25 receptions for 328 yards and a pair of touchdowns in 2025. The Springfield, Ill. native highlighted his season with a season-high six catches for 51 yards against Illinois State, while adding touchdown catches against both South Dakota and North Dakota.
 
Page, a 2025 captain, returns as the Sycamores' center in the middle of the offensive line. The Noblesville, Ind. native blocked for an offense that posted six games with at least 100 rushing yards, including a season-high 322 yards against Southern Illinois, while Indiana State added a season-high 319 passing yards against Youngstown State.
 
Childers took over a starting role on the Sycamores' defensive line in the 2025 season on his way to finishing with 23 total tackles, 4.0 tackles-for-loss, and 3.5 sacks. The Carmel, Ind. native highlighted his year with a three-tackle, three QB hurry game against Illinois State, while adding two tackles, 1.0 TFL, and a sack against both South Dakota and South Dakota State.
 
Andrews returns as the Sycamores' top cornerback on the season after posting 63 total tackles and six pass breakups in his inaugural 2025 campaign at Indiana State. The Gaithersburg, Md. Native recorded a season-high 11 tackles and 1.0 tackles-for-loss against Illinois State, while adding at least eight tackles in three separate games.
 
Lopez was 6-for-9 in field goal attempts in the 2025 season in his first season as the starting placekicker for the Sycamores. The Fort Wayne, Ind. native converted on season-long 46-yard field goals against both North Dakota and South Dakota State, while adding 20 touchbacks over 36 kickoff attempts on the year.
 
Weed took over the starting role as the Sycamores' long snapper early in the 2025 season and made the role his own throughout the year. The Greenwood, Ind. native was the primary snapper for all Indiana State punts, field goals, and PATs, while adding two tackles on the season coming against both North Dakota and Youngstown State.
 
French returns as the most experience punt returner for the Sycamores heading into the 2026 season as the Zion, Ill. native heads into his redshirt sophomore season. He recorded three returns for six yards in 2025, including a season-high two returns against South Dakota State.
