TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Western Illinois seized control of the game early and the Sycamores were unable to string together an offensive attack against the Leatherneck pitching staff in falling on Wednesday night at Bob Warn Field, 13-3, in eight innings.
WIU (17-30) scored three runs in the second inning and added a six-run frame in the sixth as the Leathernecks connected on 14 hits overall on the night. The Sycamores (26-22) rallied in the seventh with RBI singles from
Mason Roell and
Nick Sutherlin to extend the game, before ultimately falling short in the loss.
Jeremy Martinez led the Sycamores with two of the team's six hits in the loss, including a double, while
Emil Estrella added a double in the contest.
Mason Roell drove in two of the team's three RBIs.
Breyllin Suriel (1-5) took the loss on the mound allowing four hits and three runs (one earned), while striking out two over 3.0 innings of work.

How They Scored
- Western Illinois took the 3-0 lead in the top of the second highlighted by Kamryn Link's solo home run.
- The Leathernecks added two more to their totals in the top of the fourth courtesy of a wild pitch and a passed ball to make it a 5-0 game.
- Indiana State took one back in the bottom of the fifth inning as Mason Roell connected on a sacrifice fly scoring Colin Sander to make it a 5-1 contest.
- WIU added six runs to their totals in the top of the sixth inning highlighted by a two-run single from Kamryn Link and a two-run double from Josh McClintock to go up 11-1.
- Kamryn Link added an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning to extend the WIU lead to 12-1.
- The Sycamores extended the game with two runs in the bottom of the seventh as Mason Roell singled home Carter Beck and Nick Sutherlin singled home Jeremy Martinez to make it a 12-3 game.
- Liam Bushey connected on the final RBI in the top of the eighth with an RBI single scoring Gage Hoover to provide the final 13-3 scoring margin.

- Carter Beck extended his on-base streak to 32 consecutive games following his 1-for-3 day at the plate with a walk and run scored.
- Caden Miller's 26-game on-base streak came to an end following his 0-for-4 night at the plate.
