TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Competing at the Gibson Track and Field Complex for the first time this outdoor season, Indiana State overcame multiple delays and poor weather to post strong early-season results Friday and Saturday at the Pacesetter Sports Invitational.
Sycamore athletes produced 16 first-place finishes during their first home meet of the season, including sweeps in the 200m, 100 and 110m hurdles, pole vault and long jump. The Trees racked up 35 top-three finishes as a team while finishing in first place on both sides, with 193 points on the men's side and 214 on the women's side.

Sprints/Hurdles
Indiana State athletes continued their strong efforts in the hurdles events, claiming the top spot in three of the four races.
Rachel Mehringer lowered her MVC-leading time in the 100m hurdles, with her winning time of 13.20 being one of the best in the nation this season.
Aubrey Runyon continued her consistent start to the season in second at 14.01.
The Sycamores claimed the top three spots in the 110m hurdles, with
Kieran Barnewall pacing the Trees with a 14.11 in his outdoor season debut.
David Carnell placed second at 14.14, while
Collin Forrest clocked a 14.22 to finish third. Carnell also finished third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 55.94, with
Parker Doyle winning the event in 53.97.
Janiya Bowman went 2-for-2 in first-place finishes Saturday afternoon, taking top spot in the field in both the 100m (11.67) and 200m (24.02). Bowman's times ranked second in the MVC in both events, while fellow Sycamore
Casey Hood Jr. also took top spot in the men's 200m at 21.11. Hood Jr. placed second in the 100m at 10.35 in his outdoor season opener.
Trent Jones had a big day for the Blue and White, placing second in the 400m with a career-best 47.02 while anchoring the 4x400m relay to a first-place finish at 3:17.03, thanks to his split of 47.08 on the final leg. Jones moved up to fourth in program history in the 400m, one of two current Sycamore sprinters among the top 10 400m times in program history.
Indiana State's men's 4x100m team placed second at 40.80, while the Trees finished sixth in the women's 4x100m relay at 48.38.
Mid-Distance/Distance
Indiana State recorded top-five finishes in nearly every distance and mid-distance event contested over the course of the weekend, with two coming in the women's 1500m.
Halle Miller placed second at 4:35.78, while
Gnister Grant also ran a career-best 4:38.08 to finish among the best in the field.
The Trees also had a strong start to their steeplechase season, with
Ryan York pacing a quartet of Indiana State athletes in the top 10 with a time of 9:25.42.
Kamilla Gibson finished second on the women's side at 11:44.65.
Hallie Mimbela added a top-five finish in the 800m for the Blue and White with her time of 2:15.86, while
Nick Burns led the Sycamore contingent on the men's side at 1:53.71.
Bot of Indiana State's athletes who competed in the 5000m improved on their season-opening times from Eastern Illinois.
Parker Mimbela carded a top-five finish on the men's side with his time of 15:22.85, improving by more than eight seconds from his season opener.
Robyn Schemel's time of 18:42.66 was nearly 13 seconds better than her season opener from the previous week.
Jumps
Six of Indiana State's first-place finishes in the Sycamores' home opener came in the jumps events, including a sweep of the top spots in the pole vault.
Landon Dobbs cleared 4.96m (16-3.25) to take top spot on the men's side, while
Amy Luttrell cleared 3.85m (12-7.5) to pace the women's side, as both leading vaulters secured significant improvements from their season opener.
Noah Gilmore had a big day for the Blue and White in the high jump, clearing a career-best 2.08m (6-9.75) to take the event win while moving into the top three in the MVC this season in the event.
Ellie Irwin placed third on the women's side by clearing 1.66m (5-5.25).
Elijah Coker made an instant impact in his Sycamore Track and Field debut, with the former Indiana State defensive back winning the long jump in his first collegiate track and field meet. Coker's top mark came in at 7.22m (23-8.25), the best in the conference this season, while he also added a 7.16m (23-6) jump.
Aaliyah Thurman claimed the event win on the women's side with her jump of 5.56m (18-3), while
Justice Boston earned one of her two top-five finishes on the weekend with her mark of 5.31m (17-5.25).
Indiana State's 1-2 punch in the women's triple jump picked up right where they left off from indoor season.
Jahnel Bowman moved into the top five in program history for outdoor marks with her season-opening effort of 12.62m (41-5), while Boston was second in the event at 11.63m (38-2).
Throws
Indiana State throwers continued their strong start to the 2026 outdoor season, recording three event wins and adding a pair of program top-10 marks in the women's hammer throw.
Emma Yoder moved up to eighth in program history with her career-best mark of 57.81m (189-8), while
Cora Williams cracked the top-10 charts in just her second outdoor collegiate meet at 57.16m (187-6).
Aliseonna Garnett had another big weekend for the Blue and White, winning the discus with a mark of 51.25m (168-1), while also adding top-three finishes in the shot put (14.83m/48-8) and hammer throw (53.26m/174-9).
Olivia Marshall also placed in the top three in both the shot put (14.11m/) and discus (41.79m/137-1), surpassing the 40-meter mark for the first time in her career.
Sloan Cox took home top spot in the men's shot put in his outdoor season debut, with his best attempt checking in at 17.21m (56-5.75).
Ben Brown added a second-place finish in the event at 16.51m (54-2), while also placing in the top five in the discus (46.55m/152-8).
Theo Thurmond recorded top-five finishes in a pair of events, placing third in the hammer throw (53.17m/174-5) and fourth in the discus (47.10m/154-6).
