Kelsey named Hannig Construction Indiana State Student-Athletes of the Week

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State women's basketball's Tierney Kelsey was named this week's Hannig Construction Indiana State Student-Athletes of the Week as announced by the athletic department on Monday afternoon.

Tierney Kelsey had a tournament to remember for the Blue and White, averaging 35 points, five rebounds, 2.5 assists and two steals per game in Indiana State's two tournament games. She was the only athlete selected to the all-tournament team outside of the two finalists.

Kelsey produced one of the best individual performances in MVC Tournament history in the Sycamores' quarterfinal defeat to eventual champion Murray State, finishing with 46 points, seven rebounds and four assists against the Racers.

The 46 points tied a program record which was set by Sycamore legend Melanie Boeglin in 2006, while ranking third in MVC Tournament history behind only Jackie Stiles, who had two games with 47 or more points. Kelsey went 15-for-29 from the field (51.7 percent), 3-for-7 from 3-point range (42.9 percent) and 13-for-15 from the charity stripe (86.7 percent).

She led the Sycamores in points, rebounds and assists against the Racers, while her 46 points were the third-most by any Division I athlete in a game this season behind only Richmond's Maggie Doogan (48 vs. Davidson – 3OT) and Iowa State's Audi Crooks (47 vs. Indiana).

The Memphis, Tennessee, native played a vital role in the Sycamores' 81-69 first round win over Southern Illinois, finishing with 24 points, three rebounds, three steals and one assist in the victory over the Salukis. She shot 50 percent from the floor against SIU (9-for-18) and went 5-for-6 from the charity stripe to help Indiana State earn its first conference tournament win of the Marc Mitchell era.

Kelsey becomes the first Sycamore selected to the MVC All-Tournament team since Melanie Boeglin in 2006. Her inclusion on the all-tournament team marks the first time since 2011 that an athlete outside of the four semifinal teams earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

The Hannig Construction Indiana State Student-Athlete of the Week will be announced every week throughout the 2025-26 athletic season.
