Sycamores fall in Saturday contest to Gonzaga, 7-4

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Gonzaga rallied back from an early deficit and the Bulldogs' defense held off Indiana State late as the Sycamores fell at home on Saturday afternoon, 7-4.

Indiana State (7-11) plated two runs in the top of the first inning on Weston Fulk's RBI single to take the early lead, but Gonzaga (6-11) rallied back with a three-run fifth inning highlighted by a Ryder Young RBI single and a pair of sacrifice flies.

Andrew Ortiz scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game back up at 3-3, but Gonzaga went back ahead in the seventh on a pair of sacrifice fly balls to center field off Tommy Eisenstat and Hudson Shupe's bats.

The Sycamores looked to rally back with one out in the bottom of the seventh. Andrew Ortiz dropped a bunt single down the third base line and took second base on a wild pitch. Carter Beck drew a walk to put two on base, before Emil Estrella connected on a single down the right field line. Ortiz scored on the play to make it a 5-4 game, but Estrella and Beck both were caught in rundowns with Beck thrown out attempting to score to end the Indiana State rally.

Tommy Eisenstat added to the Gonzaga lead with a two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning and the Sycamores were unable to rally back as the Bulldogs secured the series win.

Andrew Ortiz led the Sycamores with two of the team's four hits in the contest, while adding three runs scored in the game. Weston Fulk drove in a pair of RBIs, while Emil Estrella singled in the loss.

Ty Brooks worked 5.0 innings in the Saturday start allowing seven hits and three runs while striking out two. Spencer Johnsen and Hunter Small went the final 3.0 innings in the loss.

Finbar O'Brien (1-1) worked 4.2 innings in relief in picking up his first win of the 2026 season. O'Brien allowed two hits and a run while striking out four in shutting down the Sycamore offense. Landon Hood went 4.1 innings allowing two hits and three runs while striking out six and walking four in the start.
