NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt utilized a six-run rally in the bottom of the fifth inning to retake the lead and added runs in the sixth and seventh frames on their way to topping Indiana State on Tuesday night at Hawkins Field, 14-6.
The Sycamores (7-9) built a 6-2 lead after the top of the fifth as Indiana State sent 10 batters to the plate and scored five runs to take the lead.
Jeremy Martinez sparked the rally with a double to center field and came around to score on
Caleb Niehaus' RBI single.
Nomar Garcia (RBI single) and Eddie Alonso (RBI double) added a pair of RBIs, before
Caden Miller connected on a bases-loaded two-run double down the left field line scoring
Emil Estrella and Alonso to make it a four-run Sycamore lead.
Vanderbilt (11-7) responded in the bottom of the inning with a six-run rally as 11 Commodores went to bat in the frame. Braden Holcomb connected on an RBI double for the first run of the inning, before a Sycamore error on a potential inning-ending double play, ground ball extended the Vanderbilt rally. Chris Maldonado scored on a wile pitch to pull the Commodores back within one, before Collin Brightwell connected on the go-ahead RBI single up the middle that allowed three Vanderbilt runs to score on a second Indiana State error in the frame.
The Commodores added two additional runs in the sixth inning and four in the seventh, while the Vanderbilt bullpen closed out the game on the mound.
Caden Miller had two of Indiana State's six hits in the contest as the junior first baseman connected on a pair of doubles. Eddie Alonso and
Jeremy Martinez both doubled, while
Emil Estrella drew a pair of walks, stole a base, and scored two runs.
Breyllin Suriel (0-3) took the loss on the mound allowing the go-ahead run in the fifth inning.
Spencer Johnsen worked 3.2 innings in the start, while
Colby Morse,
Carson Seeman,
Trevor Fenters,
Brady Banker, and
Jacob Spencer all pitched in the contest.
All nine Vanderbilt players in the starting lineup hit safely in the contest with Braden Holcomb and Mike Mancini both homering in the win. Mancini added three RBIs and three runs scored, while Chris Maldonado and Holcomb also three runs apiece.

- Braden Holcomb put Vanderbilt ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run off the netting behind the right field wall.
- The Sycamores tied the game up in the top of the fourth as Emil Estrella walked, stole second, and then came around to score on Nick Sutherlin's sacrifice fly to even the score at 1-1.
- Mike Mancini put Vanderbilt back in the lead in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run to left center to put the Commodores ahead 2-1.
- Indiana State rallied to plate five runs in the top of the fifth inning as Caleb Niehaus singled home Jeremy Martinez, Nomar Garcia singled home Niehaus, and Eddie Alonso doubled home Garcia, before Caden Miller connected on a two-run double down the left field line to make it a 6-2 ballgame.
- Vanderbilt rallied to retake the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning aided by an Indiana State fielding error, to go ahead 8-6. Collin Brightwell had the big hit in the frame with a two-run single to left center scoring Mancini and Mack Whitcomb to break the 6-6 tie.
- The Commodores added two more runs in the sixth inning with Whitcomb connecting on a sacrifice fly scoring Holcomb, before Ryker Waite singled in Chris Maldonado to put the score at 10-6.
- Vanderbilt scored four more runs in the bottom of the seventh with Brodie Johnston (RBI single), Maldonado (RBI double), Mancini (RBI double), and Whitcomb (RBI triple) all driving in runs to provide the final scoring margin.

Season tickets for the 2026 Indiana State baseball season are now on sale as the Sycamores head into their second season under Head Coach
Tracy Archuleta. The Sycamores will play 21 home games inside Bob Warn Field this season, starting on March 4 against Lindenwood.
Reserved chairback season tickets can be purchased for $110. General admission season tickets will go on sale as well with adult ($75), seniors ($55), and youth ($40) tickets also being available for purchase. There will be a $5 surcharge added to those wanting tickets printed.
The Sycamores have teamed up with Pacesetter Sports and the Spirit Shop for the third consecutive season for a season ticket deal. Fans will receive a $50 Pacesetter gift card for each $110 reserved chairback season ticket, $35 gift card for each $75 general admission season ticket, $25 gift card for each $55 senior general admission ticket, and $20 gift card for each $40 youth season ticket sold.
