NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Indiana State men's basketball fell to Belmont, 87-70, Saturday night.
Ian Scott led the Sycamores with a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 8-for-11 from the field. He added in two assists, two blocks, and a steal.
Camp Wagner and
Sterling Young each finished with 14 points, with Wagner chipping in two rebounds, three assists, and a steal.
Xavier Hall added a stat line of eight points, five rebounds, three assists, and two steals, while
Bruno Alocen finished with four points, four rebounds, seven assists, two steals, and a block.
The Sycamores didn't get on the board until almost three-and-a-half minutes in, when
Sterling Young drilled a right-wing three. Just about 12 minutes into the game, Belmont led 17-11 before a 6-0 scoring run gave the Sycamores their first led. The game went back and forth, and an
Ian Scott dunk put Indiana State ahead one, 25-24 with 6:34 on the clock.
That dunk would end up being the last Sycamore points of the half as the Bruins outscored Indiana State 15-0 to close the first half. Indiana State shot 0-for-9 in the stretch.
Belmont opened the second half on an 11-5 run, extending their lead to 20 points, 50-30, still with 17:50 remaining in the game. All five Sycamore points came from
Xavier Hall. Indiana State surged to cut the deficit to 12 points with 12 minutes to play, 58-46.
Over the next five minutes of action, Belmont built back to a 20-point advantage, 73-53. The scoring remained even to close the game, with
Sterling Young, Sivert Wærstad Nordheim, and
Camp Wagner scoring all of Indiana State's last 14 points of the game. Belmont held on to win, 87-70.
