TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State delivered one of its strongest performances of the season on Thursday night, knocking off conference-leading Southern Illinois 2–0 at Memorial Stadium.
Indiana State established the tone early, generating pressure in the opening minute when Kaitlynn Long forced a save and earned a corner kick moments later. The Sycamores continued to dictate play throughout the first half, creating chances through Meagyn Riffle and Quinn Urquhart while limiting Southern Illinois opportunities in the attacking third. After building momentum for much of the opening period, Indiana State finally broke through in the 33rd minute. Following a strong attacking sequence, Dasha Tuckova found the back of the net off assists from Tori Angelo and Peyton Wetzel, giving the Sycamores a deserved advantage. Just over six minutes later, Indiana State struck again when CharlieBleu Saunders scored to double the lead and cap a dominant first-half effort.
The Sycamores carried that momentum into the second half, remaining organized defensively while continuing to create quality chances. Long forced another save early in the period, and Urquhart added a shot on goal midway through the half. Defensively, Indiana State's back line remained composed against a Southern Illinois squad that entered the night among the league's best. When the Salukis finally generated their lone shot on target, Sofie Hansen was there to make the save and preserve the clean sheet. Indiana State closed out the final minutes with confidence, securing a result that further strengthens its position in the MVC race while handing Southern Illinois its second conference loss of the season.
