Terre Haute, Ind. – Indiana State women's volleyball defeated Belmont in four sets Saturday night (25-16, 25-22, 17-25, 25-23).
The Sycamores were led by
Kira Holland and
Curry Kendall, who each tallied 13 kills.
Hadley Hardersen and
Ava Robart added 10 apiece, while
Ella Scott chipped in eight. Defensively,
Chloe Gilley paced the team with 13 digs, followed by
Emily Weber (12), Holland (10), and
Avery Hales (10). At the net,
Kimora Whetstone posted seven blocks, with Hardersen close behind at five.
Set 1 | Indiana State 25, Belmont 16
Indiana State opened strong, earning a 5-2 lead behind kills from Kendall, Scott, and Hardersen. The Sycamores stretched the margin with a four-point service run from Gilley, fueled by two Holland kills and one from Scott, setting the score at 11-4. After brief back-and-forth play, Robart's four-point service run pushed the score to 20-12, and the Sycamores closed out the set 25-16.
Set 2 | Indiana State 25, Belmont 22
Belmont jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but Indiana State responded with a three-point service run from Scott that included an ace and kills from Holland and Whetstone to bring the score to 6-4 Sycamores. The teams traded points until Belmont tied it up at 14-14 and briefly pulled ahead with an ace and two kills. Indiana State rallied late, with another Scott service run pushing the Sycamores ahead 22-21. Holland and Hales sealed the set with back-to-back kills for a 25-22 win.
Set 3 | Belmont 25, Indiana State 17
The third set was tight early on until Belmont used a five-point service run from Bella Mathis to push ahead to 11-6. Indiana State trimmed the deficit to 15-13, but the Bruins regained control with another five-point surge and pulled away for the 25-17 victory.
Set 4 | Indiana State 25, Belmont 23
The final set was a battle, featuring three lead changes and 10 ties. Neither team led by more than three points the whole set. Belmont edged ahead late, but Indiana State tied it at 22-22 with kills from Robart and Kendall. The Sycamores closed out the match with kills from Weber and two from Holland to win 25-23.
