Sycamores Fall Short 5-3 at Chattanooga

Chattanooga, Tenn. – Chattanooga scored four first-half goals and added a second-half Caroline Richvalsky goal as Indiana State fell to the host Mocs in the match for both teams, 5-3. 

Indiana State struck first on Thursday night at Finley Stadium, but UTC answered with four goals of their own as the Sycamores trailed 4-1 at halftime. 

The Sycamores opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Alex Lehnert buried a shot to the high center of the net off a setup from Tori Angelo, giving ISU an early 1-0 lead. UTC equalized 17 minutes later and used their momentum to score three more goals in the final 15 minutes of the half to build a 4-1 advantage at the break. 

Indiana State kept the pressure up with five first-half shots, including two from Lehnert, and earned a pair of corner kicks as they looked to regain momentum. Goalkeeper Delaney Timmons added a save in the opening 45 minutes, keeping the Sycamores within reach. 

Indiana State battled back in the second half, scoring twice to cut into UTC's lead, but the Mocs added a late strike to close out a 5-3 final at Finley Stadium. 

The Sycamores regained strength beginning in the 59th minute when Brooklyn Woods converted from the penalty spot to bring ISU within a 4-2 score. Sophomore forward Alex Lehnert struck again at 74:58 with her second goal of the night, closing the scoring gap to just one at 4-3 and giving Indiana State power in the closing stages. UTC responded in the 84th minute to push the margin back to two goals and secure the victory. 

Indiana State generated five more shots in the half, including efforts on frame from Woods and Lehnert, and continued to challenge UTC's goalkeeper Caroline Ekern. Defensively, Delaney Timmons collected two saves to keep the Sycamores within striking distance.

13' – Indiana State 1–0: Alex Lehnert put the Sycamores ahead early, finishing high center after a feed from Tori Angelo
30' – Chattanooga 1–1: Dillard leveled the match with a strike to the high left corner, assisted by Wakefield. 
34' – Chattanooga 2–1: Thomas gave the Mocs their first lead with a low shot to the center. 
37' – Chattanooga 3–1: Lauritsen extended the margin, finishing high right from a Richvalsky assist. 
40' – Chattanooga 4–1: Thomas struck again, low to the right side, this time set up by Mastrangelo. 
59' – Indiana State 2–4: Brooklyn Woods converted a penalty kick, firing high center to bring ISU back into the match. 
75' – Indiana State 3–4: Alex Lehnert notched her second goal of the night with a finish to the high center, cutting the Mocs' lead to one. 
84' – Chattanooga 5–3: Richvalsky answered with a high left strike off an assist from Mize, restoring the two-goal cushion
