CHARLESTON, Ill. – Indiana State softball dropped an 8-0 decision to Eastern Illinois in six innings in their final midweek and non-conference game of the season on Tuesday at Williams Field.

Eastern Illinois took control in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring three runs on three hits after Lauren Sackett replaced Hailey Griffin in the circle for the Sycamores. Despite the pressure of timely hits and a pair of walks that loaded the bases, Sackett stayed composed.

A two-RBI single from Hatton and a groundout brought in another run, but Sackett managed to end the inning by forcing a pop-up to third base with the bases loaded.

The Panthers added three more runs in the fifth inning to extend their lead. A triple by Gonzalez set the tone, and she later came home on a double steal. A walk and wild pitch allowed another run to score, and after Sackett was relieved by Annie Waggoner, the Panthers' third run of the inning came on a groundout. Waggoner then retired the next two batters, limiting further damage.

Eastern Illinois sealed the win in the bottom of the sixth with two more runs, securing the run-rule victory. Crain singled, followed by Grover's RBI double. Grover advanced to third on a passed ball, and after Olman was hit by a pitch, before Gonzalez's sacrifice fly brought Grover home for the eighth and final run.

Morgan Goodrich, Hannah Welch, and Luci Kapelka accounted for the three hits for Indiana State in the loss.
