EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Indiana State fell short in the series finale against Evansville on Tuesday afternoon, dropping a 4-2 decision at Cooper Stadium. With the win, the Purple Aces secured the series, taking two of three games from the Sycamores.
Indiana State struck first in the top of the opening inning. Madison Poulson and Morgan Goodrich started the game with back-to-back singles, then pulled off a double steal to move into scoring position. Poulson came home on a center field error following a flyout, giving the Sycamores an early 1-0 lead.
Evansville responded quickly in the bottom half of the frame as Adams launched a solo home run to right field, tying the game 1-1. The Aces kept the momentum in the third inning behind a bunt single from Warner and a two-run homer off the bat of Howe, putting them ahead 3-1.
The Purple Aces added to their lead in the fourth inning. Following a leadoff single by Adams and a walk to Frossard, pinch-runner Pye capitalized on a miscue to cross the plate, extending the advantage to 4-1.
Indiana State trimmed the deficit in the fifth. Lauren Marsicek reached on an error and was eventually driven in by Brailey Mills with a single to right field. The Sycamores threatened for more but had their rally cut short by an inning-ending double play.
Cassi Newbanks (4-5) took the loss in the circle for Indiana State, tossing 4.0 innings and allowing four runs on four hits. Megan Asher provided a highlight in relief, delivering 2.0 scoreless innings while striking out three and not allowing a hit.
The Sycamores totaled seven hits in the game. Poulson led the offense with a 2-for-4 performance and a run scored. Livi Colip also tallied a pair of hits, while Mills recorded the team's lone RBI.
Up Next: The Sycamores are headed to Peoria, Ill. this weekend for a three-game series against Bradley, with matchups set for Friday at 6 p.m ET and a doubleheader on Saturday at 2 p.m and 4 p.m ET.
