Sycamores Fall 6-0 to Tennessee in Championship Game of Tennessee Invitational

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Sycamores faced off against host Tennessee in the championship game of the Tennessee Invitational on Sunday afternoon at Parker Lee Stadium, ultimately falling 6-0. With the loss, Indiana State finished the weekend with a 2-3 record.

Hailey Griffin (3-4) took the loss in the circle for Indiana State, pitching 4.0 innings, allowing seven hits, six runs, walking one, and striking out two. Lauren Sackett came in for relief, tossing 2.0 innings, giving up just one hit, and striking out three.

Tennessee took an early lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning with a 2-run homer by Nugent, scoring Gibson, who had earlier singled. The Lady Vols extended their lead to 4-0 in the 3rd when Fiedler tripled and Mealer followed with a 2-run homerun.

In the top of the 4th, ISU had runners in scoring position after Madison Poulson walked and Morgan Goodrich singled to move Poulson to second. A throwing error on third base allowed Esposito to reach first, Goodrich to advance to second and Poulson to reach third. However, ISU was unable to capitalize on the scoring opportunity.

In the bottom of the 4th, Tennessee added two more runs with a sacrifice fly by Rodriguez and a triple by Fiedler, extending their lead to 6-0.

Sackett entered the circle in the fifth inning and retired all three batters she faced with strikeouts.
