GREENVILLE, N.C. – Indiana State's seventh-inning rally fell just short as the Sycamores fell to Kent State in the final game of the LeClair Classic, 6-5, on Sunday afternoon at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
The Sycamores (5-6) fell behind 6-1 early in the contest as Kent State's (3-6) Hayden Jatczak drove in three early RBIs with a run-scoring single in the first and a two-run triple in the third. Indiana State rallied back in the seventh inning as the Sycamores plated four runs thanks to
Eli Gipson (RBI single),
Carter Beck (RBI double), and
Carlos Pena (two-run single), but the two-out rally was quelled by the Golden Flashes.
Indiana State put the tying run on base in the top of the eighth on
Thomas Emerich's one-out single, but KSU reliever Peyton Cariaco (S, 3) retired the final four Sycamore batters, including retiring the side in the top of the ninth, to close out the Kent State win.
Emerich paced the Sycamores at the plate going 4-for-4 with a double and run scored. Beck added a multi-hit game including his RBI double in the seventh, while

Luke Matthews and Jatczak both had multi-hit contests as the Sycamore pitching staff limited Kent State to seven hits in the contest. Hunter Klotz added a triple for KSU in the win.
Jacob Bean (1-2) went 6.0 innings allowing six hits and a run while striking out four in the win. Evan Holewinski, Ciaran Caughey, and Cariaco went the final three innings in closing out the contest.
