Garis, Gipson homer, Moss excels as Indiana State tops Pacific on Friday

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. Keegan Garis homered twice and Eli Gipson added his first home run of the season in support of a strong effort out of the bullpen by Aaron Moss as Indiana State topped visiting Pacific, 5-3, on Friday afternoon at Bob Warn Field.

Garis connected on a solo home run in the second inning and added the go-ahead two-run shot to right center in the sixth inning in the first multi-homer game of his Indiana State (8-10) career. Gipson added a two-run home run into the trees in left field in the sixth to provide all the support Moss (1-0) would need in picking up the series opening win over the Tigers (9-10).

Moss worked 5.0 innings in relief of starter Max McEwen after the redshirt junior entered the game in the top of the fifth inning. After the leadoff man in the fifth got on due to an Indiana State error, Moss retired nine batters in a row before surrendering a leadoff double to Jake Tandy in the top of the eighth inning. The St. Louis, Mo. native pitched around another Indiana State error before shutting down the Tiger offense the rest of the way to secure his first win of the season.

Jackson Taylor recorded three of Indiana State's eight hits in the contest, while Garis homered twice to power the Sycamores' offense in the game. Jeremy Martinez added a double in Indiana State's first win inside The Bob in 2025.

Moss surrendered just two hits and one run while striking out two in securing his first collegiate win. McEwen went the first 4.0 innings allowing three hits and two runs while striking out five in 89 pitches.

Tandy and Andrew Sloan both doubled, while Rylan Evans put Pacific on the board with a two-run home run in the top of the second inning to highlight the Tigers' offense in the game.

Ethan Shaver (1-1) took the loss allowing six hits and four runs while striking out six in a 4.0-inning relief appearance. Regan Carter worked the first 4.0 innings allowing two hits and a run while striking out a pair.

  • Keegan Garis responded for Indiana State in the bottom of the frame as the Sycamore left fielder connected on an opposite field solo home run into the tree line beyond the left field wall to cut the Pacific lead down to 2-1.
  • Garis put Indiana State in the lead in the bottom of the sixth as the senior drilled an 0-1 offering over the wall in right center scoring Carlos Pena for the two-run shot to give the Sycamores the 3-2 lead.
  • Eli Gipson followed three batters later with a two-run line drive home run over the wall in left field scoring Weston Fulk to make it a 5-2 game in the sixth.
