Fort Myers, FL – Indiana State claimed its first victory of the 2025 season with a 4-3 win against LIU, giving head coach Windy Thees her first career win with the Sycamores.
The Sycamores delivered a strong batting performance in their 4-3 victory, securing their first win of the 2025 season. Indiana State tallied 9 hits, with contributions from Esposito (2), Poulson, Goodrich, Welch, Colip, Erschen, Mills, and Wischmeier.
Hailey Griffin delivered a strong outing, pitching 5.1 innings, allowing only 3 hits, and striking out 4 batters.
Indiana State set the tone early as Esposito continued her hot streak at the plate, collecting her sixth hit of the opening weekend. On the defensive side, Griffin dominated the circle, firing back-to-back strikeouts to control the inning.
The Sycamores jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the second inning. Taylor Erschen worked a walk, setting the stage for Brailey Mills, who recorded a triple to bring her home. Whitley Wischmeier kept the momentum going with an RBI single to add another run.
Defensively, Griffin remained dominant in the circle, racking up two more strikeouts to keep the Sharks off the board.
In the third inning, Indiana State extended its lead to 4-0 with a series of clutch hits. Sophie Esposito collected her second hit of the game, setting up Livi Colip for an RBI double that brought Esposito home. Colip's double put the Sycamores up 3-0, and Taylor Erschen followed with another double, driving in an additional run to increase the lead.
The Sycamores continued to generate offense with singles from Goodrich and Poulson in the fourth inning, but both were left stranded.
The Sharks put two on the board in the fourth to cut the Sycamores' lead to 4-2. Devin Medina doubled to score Kaylee Clark, followed by an RBI single from Hannah Burne to bring Medina home.
Lauren Sackett entered the game to relieve Hailey Griffin, and the Sharks capitalized in the 6th inning. Jaedyn Linco reached on a fielder's choice with an RBI, bringing Lily Hinkle home to score their third run, cutting the Sycamores' lead to 4-3 heading into the final frame.
The Sycamores closed out strong with a dominant performance in the final frame. Lauren Sackett stepped up in the circle, delivering a big strikeout to seal the 4-3 victory.
