ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Indiana State women's swimming and diving swept the Missouri Valley Conference's weekly awards as
Claire Parsons (Swimmer),
Jecza Lopez (Diver), and
Sahara Visscher (Freshman) all were named by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon.
The awards are Parsons, Lopez, and Visscher's second recognitions of 2024-25 bringing Indiana State's weekly awards up to 13 overall by the MVC this season as the trio highlighted the Sycamores' wins over Ball State and Butler.
Parsons set the Missouri Valley record in the 1000-yard Freestyle on Friday night, breaking one of the oldest marks in the MVC by over four seconds in taking the 21-second win in 9:46.34. Her mark broke the Valley record set by SIU's Kirsten Groome (9:50.55) at the 2010 MVC Championships.
Parsons followed up with a 4:53.22 in winning the 500-yard Freestyle by over four seconds, and then swam the fastest leg in the Sycamores' C-Teams' fourth-place 200-yard Freestyle Relay team.
Lopez shattered the Indiana State diving marks in both the 1M and 3M events in the meet on Friday against Ball State and Butler. Lopez's mark of 315.37 in the 3M Diving was a Vigo County Aquatic Center pool record and is the highest score in the MVC this season. Her 293.93 in the 1M is the second-highest mark in the Valley this year.
Visscher was the lead leg in Indiana State's school record-setting 200-yard Medley Relay team, and then added wins in both the 100-yard Backstroke and 200-yard Backstroke to highlight the Sycamores' win over Butler and Ball State. She was the only athlete to go sub-55.00 in the 100-yard Back and the lone athlete to go sub-2:00 in the 200-yard Backstroke.
