Parsons named GoGo Squeez ISU Student-Athlete of the Week

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State women's swimming and diving's Claire Parsons was named this week's GoGo Squeez ISU Student-Athlete of the Week as announced by the athletic department on Monday afternoon.

Parsons set the first Missouri Valley Conference record in program history highlighting a record-setting night at the Vigo County Aquatic Center on Friday evening as the Sycamores topped both Butler and Ball State on Senior Night.

The Terre Haute native shattered her own personal mark in the 1000-yard Freestyle by over 11 seconds and set the new MVC record by over four seconds in breaking a mark that had stood in the conference since 2010. Her time of 9:46.34 broke the previous MVC mark set by SIU's Kirsten Groome (9:50.55) in the 2010 season, surpassing one of the longest standing Valley records to date.

Parsons went 4:52.65 over the first 500 yards in the race and then closed out in 4:53.71 on her way to winning the event by a full 21 seconds over the field.

Less than an hour later, Parsons was back atop the field posting a 4:53.22 in the 500-yard Freestyle race to win the event by over four seconds.

Parsons currently has the fastest times in the MVC this season in the 1000-yard Freestyle (9:46.34) and 1650-yard Freestyle (16:31.28), while also posting top five times in the conference in the 200-yard (1:48.32) and 500-yard (4:47.59) events.

The GoGo Squeez ISU Student-Athlete of the Week will be announced every week throughout the 2024-25 athletic season.
