TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Indiana State volleyball concluded their weekend home series with a loss to UIC in three sets (21-25, 23-25, 17-25). The Sycamores return to conference play on the road at Bradley on Friday, November 7.
The Sycamores were led by
Kira Holland with seven kills.
Ella Scott and
Curry Kendall were close behind each other with six kills.
Macy Lengacher led the defense with 14 kills, and
Avery Hales added nine digs.
Kimora Whetstone added three blocks to aid the defense.
Set 1 | UIC 25, Indiana State 21
The Sycamores lost the opening point; however, they quickly bounced back and went on a 7-3 run at a score of 8-3. The Flames continued to battle but Trees were able to hold at least a two-point lead until a timely kill by the Flames brought them within one at 16-15. A block by
Kimora Whetstone and
Hadley Hardersen gave the Sycamores a three-point lead at 19-16. The Flames went on to go on a 7-1 run to take the lead and go up 23-20. Despite a kill by Hardersen, the Flames took the set 25-21.
Set 2 | UIC 15, Indiana State 23
The Sycamores opened set two with a 7-2 run due to kills by
Kira Holland and Whetstone. The Sycamores continued to hold the lead with kills by
Ella Scott and
Curry Kendall; however, aces by the Flames brought them back into the set to tie it at 12's. The Trees would battle to hold the lead, but kills by the Flames tied the set again at 14's. Errors by the Trees gave the Flames the lead. A kill by Holland and errors by the Flames brought the set even once again at 19 apiece. The back end of the set would be a back-and-forth battle with a block by
Corinne Knapp and Whetstone to tie the match at 23 all. Despite the Sycamores hitting a .195 to the Flames' .171, two straight kills by the Flames would give them the set win.
Set 3 | UIC 15, Indiana State 17
The Flames opened set three with an 11-0 run. The Flames would dominate early on in the set A3-0 run by the Trees, with a kill by
Lily Mueller and a Whetstone block, gave the Sycamores a little bit of life. The Sycamores and Flames would trade back-and-forth runs of two before a 5-0 run by the Sycamores brought them within seven at 20-13. Despite a late ace by Holland and a Kendall kill, the Flames would win the set by eight.

- Ella Scott recorded her most kills in a match with 6 since hosting Belmont on September 27
- Lily Mueller recorded her first kill since the loss against Miami (OH) on August 30
- Emmy Sher tied her season high aces with one
- Curry Kendall recorded her first solo block since the win at Southern Illinois on October 3
- Macy Lengacher tied her season high with 14 digs
- She recorded 14 digs in two-straight matches
