SAINT-DENIS, France – Former Indiana State sprinter Noah Malone won his second medal of the 2024 Paralympic Games Thursday morning, taking home silver in the T12 400m inside the Stade de France.
Malone ran a time of 49.35 in the finals to place second behind Morocco's Mouncef Bouja, who ran a time of 48.62. In the first round, Malone ran a season-best time of 48.65 and had the top qualifying time among all athletes in the field.
Malone ran a time of 10.71 in the finals and was originally pipped to the gold medal by Turkey's Serkan Yildirim by one-hundredth of a second. Yildirim's results were later disqualified, which upgraded Malone to the gold medal. His first-round time of 10.75 won his heat and was the fastest among all athletes in the field.
Thursday's medal is Malone's second of the 2024 Paralympic games and his fifth career Paralympic medal, all of which have come at age 22 or younger. Malone won gold in the T12 100m earlier in Paris, being upgraded to the top spot after a disqualification for his first Paralympic gold in an individual event. He won a gold and two silvers at the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo. Malone was second in the 100m and 400m in Tokyo while winning gold as part of the 4x100m universal relay.
Malone is the third former Sycamore track and field student-athlete to compete in Paris this summer, as both
Erin Reese (hammer throw) and Mary Theisen-Lappen (weightlifting) competed in the 2024 Olympic Games earlier in August. Indiana State was also represented in the Olympics by current swim and dive student-athlete Chloe Farro (50m freestyle), who was also Aruba's flag bearer.
Malone is finished with individual competition in Paris, but could still compete for Team USA's 4x100m universal relay which starts on Friday. He was a part of Team USA's world record-setting team in Tokyo, which came in at 45.52.
