TERRE HAUTE, Ind.- Wimberley Wright scored her second goal of the 2024 season to highlight the Indiana State offense on Thursday evening as the Sycamores battled SIU to a 1-1 draw at Memorial Stadium.
How it happened:
The Sycamores (6-2-3) picked up its third draw of the season on Thursday evening as Southern Illinois picked up a late goal in the 87th minute to tie up the contest.
Indiana State doubled the Salukis shot attempts (12-6) as the Sycamores held the 5-4 edge on corner kicks in the contest.
Wimberley Wright broke open a scoreless tie in the 73rd minute when she collected a pass from Alex Lehnert and sent the ball past SIU keeper. Wright's shot from 12 yards out went upper right and into the net to give the Sycamores the one-goal advantage in the second half.
Indiana State recorded three shot attempts in the first half which came from Mackey, Lehnert, and Quinn before tripling their attempts in the second 45 minutes of play.
The ISU offense was paced by Mackey and Lehnert who each attempted a trio of shots, as Woods, Wright, and Mackey each had two attempts on target. Mackenzie Kent also recorded a shot for the Sycamores in the 1-1 draw in the 65th minute.
The Sycamores defense put up a battle in Thursday evening's matchup as they recorded a team save in the 59th minute to prevent the Salukis from taking the lead.
The Salukis tied up the contest 1-1 in the 87th minute with a goal by Dory Latenser. Solano totaled seven saves for the Salukis between the pipes as they posted their second MVC draw of the season.
Maddie Alexander's two saves in Thursday night's contest marks 300 career saves for the Battle Creek, Mich. native. Alexander has 54 saves in the 2024 season as she has been the primary keeper for the Sycamores, picking up 945 minutes in goal where she has allowed only five goals in 11 games of play.
