TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State head baseball coach Tracy Archuleta announced the signing of two more players for the 2024-25 academic year as the Sycamores continue to fill out the roster for the upcoming season.
The addition of Nomar Garcia (Talladega College) and Breyllin Suriel (Mid-American Christian) raise the total class to 10 athletes and join previously announced signees Gavin Morris (Southern Indiana), Grant Parson (Southern Indiana), Zac Laird (Niagara), Jorge Cartagena (Howard College), Emil Estrella (Bossier Parish C.C.), Carter Beck (University of Mary), Cole Pacheco (Modesto Junior College), and Carson Seeman (Southern Indiana).
Garcia signs with the Sycamores by way of Talladega College as the Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native enters his junior season. Garcia started 57 games at shortstop for the Tornadoes over the course of the 2024 season posting a.359 batting average including 15 extra-base hits with eight doubles, a triple, and six home runs. He finished second on the team with 53 RBIs, 57 runs scored, and 42 stolen bases.
Garcia highlighted his sophomore season included 19 multi-hit games and 13 multi-RBI contest including a 2-for-3 game with a double and five RBIs against Blue Mountain Christian, while adding a 2-for-2 game with a double, home run, and seven RBIs against Tougaloo (Miss.).
He posted a career .321 batting average over 102 games at Talladega with 100 hits including 11 home runs, while driving in 78 RBIs and scoring 83 runs. He added a .437 on-base percentage with 43 career stolen bases.
He is the son of Norfis Garcia and Ramon Del Orbe and plans on majoring in sports management at Indiana State.
Suriel signs with the Sycamores by way of Mid-American Christian as the Bonao, Dominican Republic native enters his senior season. Suriel made 18 appearances on the mound with five starts over his lone season at MACU. He posted a 3.05 ERA over 44.1 innings pitched with a 42:15 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Highlighting his 2024 season included a season-best 7.0-inning game against Science and Arts, while he added a 4.0-inning, seven-strikeout against Southern Nazarene.
Prior to his time at MACU, Suriel saw action in 45 games and made 10 starts in two seasons at Western Oklahoma State. He finished with an overall record of 10-6 record with two saves in 98.2 innings pitched with a 6.29 ERA. He added a 96:45 strikeout-to-walk ratio over two seasons.
He is the son of Monica and Luis Suriel and has not declared an emphasis of study at Indiana State.
