TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Nineteen Indiana State student-athletes earned the Missouri Valley Conference Board of Directors Academic Excellence Award as announced by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon.
Baseball's Grant Magill and Adam Pottinger, men's cross country/track & field's Ian Gadberry and Wyatt Puff, women's basketball's Kiley Bess and Ella Sawyer, women's cross country/track & field's Chloe Loftus, Sara Skaff, Maddie Welsh, and Collette Wolfe, women's soccer's Maddie Alexander, Josie Bakaitis, Carley Hudnall, Carlie Jensen, Kloe Pettigrew, and Katie Yankey, softball's Abi Chipps and Danielle Henning, and women's swimming and diving's Jordan Gruce were all honored with the award after posted a minimum 3.8 cumulative grade point average, participation in athletics a minimum of two years, and sitting within 18 hours of graduation (by the end of the spring 2024 semester).
The 19 student-athletes highlighted 230 Sycamores that were honored on the MVC Honor Roll for their work in the classroom over the 2023-24 academic year. Additionally, 57 Indiana State student-athletes received the Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award.
Overall, 1,117 student-athletes received the league's Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award, which requires a minimum grade point average of 3.5 for each of the previous two semesters, a minimum 3.2 cumulative grade point average, and participation in athletics a minimum of two years.
In addition, the Missouri Valley Conference has announced its 2023-24 Honor Roll, which recognizes academic achievement of student-athletes. To qualify for the Valley Honor Roll, a student-athlete must have recorded a minimum 3.2 grade point average for a specified term (Fall 2023/Spring 2024), must have been a member of an athletics team, and must have been enrolled full time during the term they earned the honor.
