Indiana State track and field garners USTFCCCA All-Academic awards

NEW ORLEANS – Indiana State track and field was recognized for its work in the classroom by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, as the Sycamore men's and women's teams were both selected as USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams.

The Sycamores wrapped up the 2023-24 season with a 3.23 GPA on the men's side and a 3.45 GPA on the women's side. The 2023-24 season marked the 22nd time that Indiana State was named a USTFCCCA Women's Track and Field All-Academic Team, including each of the last nine seasons, while the Sycamores earned USTFCCCA Men's Track and Field All-Academic Team recognition for the 13th time in program history and eighth consecutive season. To earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors, teams must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

In addition to the team accolades, Indiana State had 10 student-athletes earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete honors. 2024 Second Team Academic All-American Will Staggs and 2024 MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Shomari Rogers-Walton headline the Sycamores' All-Academic honorees. Joining the Sycamore standouts on the list of honorees are a trio of school record holders in Lillian Gibbs, Rachel Mehringer and Brett Norton. Noah Bolt, Brooklyn Giertz-Pfaff, Tahj Johnson, Kevin Krutsch and Wyatt Puff round out Indiana State's All-Academic Athlete honorees.

Krutsch and Puff earned their fourth All-Academic Athlete honor, becoming just the third and fourth athletes in program history to achieve the feat. Staggs and Rogers-Walton earned their third career All-Academic Athlete honors, while Norton and Bolt earned their second All-Academic honor. Gibbs, Giertz-Pfaff, Johnson and Mehringer were first-time honorees for Indiana State.

To earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete honors, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Athletes must have completed at least two semesters at their current institution, finish the season ranked in the top 96 of any championship event or to 48 in a championship relay event during indoor season, or participate in any round of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The USTFCCCA academic awards add to this season's accolades for the Blue and White in the classroom. Staggs was a Second Team Academic All-American, while Rogers-Walton was the MVC Scholar Athlete of the Year. Indiana State had 22 MVC Scholar-Athlete Team honorees, with Bolt, Giertz-Pfaff, Johnson, Krutsch, Puff, Rogers-Walton and Staggs all earning conference honors in addition to the USTFCCCA awards.
