D1Baseball – Indiana State's Mike Sears was named among the top players at his position by D1Baseball as the organization started to announce their Week 12 Positional Rankings.
 
Sears came in as the No. 21 third baseman in the NCAA Division I after not being ranked in the original posting back on Week 6 of the 2024 season.
 
The Cincinnati, Ohio native has caught on fire from the plate as of late raising his season batting average to .270, while posting a .397 on-base percentage and a .717 slugging percentage in 2024. He leads the Sycamores with a team-high 18 home runs and 12 doubles, while sitting second in total RBIs with 54.
 
Sears' power numbers have been impressive since he's stepped foot on campus and his 44 career home runs currently sit second all-time in the Sycamore record books. He has posted six career multi-homer games, including three this season coming against Florida A&M (Mar. 8), UIC (Mar. 31), and this past weekend against Belmont (May 3).
 
Sears is coming off a week where he was named the MVC Player of the Week following a weekend where he hit .700 from the plate against the Bruins with three doubles and a pair of home runs in the series sweep.
 
He was one of two third basemen in the Missouri Valley to be named to the list with Belmont's Mason Landers (No. 30) also earning recognition.
 
Sears currently sits among the Valley's leaders in slugging percentage (3rd), on-base + slugging (5th), RBIs (5th), and home runs (18).
 
Sears joins Luis Hernandez (No. 18 First Baseman) on the D1Baseball Positional Rankings List as the organization is expected to continue announcing their top players throughout the week.
 
Indiana State closes out their six-game home stand this weekend as the Sycamores welcome Evansville to Bob Warn Field for a three-game series over May 10-12. First pitch in Friday's opener is set for 4:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU and 105.5 The Legend.
