Three Sycamores voted to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Teams

ST. LOUIS- Indiana State softball had three players voted to the 2024 MVC Scholar-Athlete Teams, announced on Tuesday by the league office.  

Isabella Henning, Kennedy Shade, and Abi Chipps were all named to the First-Team Scholar Athlete Team.

The criteria for the Missouri Valley Conference's Scholar-Athlete Team voting parallels the CSC (College Sports Communicators) standards for Academic All-America voting. Nominated student-athletes must have participated in the MVC Championships or at least 75 percent of the team's regular season games with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average (GPA). Nominees in grad school must have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or better both as an undergrad and in graduate school.

Isabella Henning, a four-time All-MVC selection, ended her senior season hitting .342 with 40 hits which included 16 doubles and three home runs. She drove in 23 runs while scoring 29 runs. Off the field, Henning is an engineering major with a 3.93 grade-point average. Henning entered the 2024 season as the Number 15-ranked first basemen in Division I by D1Softball. She has received multiple accolades throughout her career including being named MVC Freshman of the Year, two-time NFCA All-Region selection, and a back to back MVC All-Tournament team honoree. 

A Second Team All-MVC choice this season, Kennedy Shade ended her senior season batting a career best .338 with 50 hits including nine doubles. She scored 22 runs and recorded a team-high 40 RBIs. Off the field, Shade is a special education major with a 3.83 grade-point average. Shade finishes her ISU career with 151 games played while earning 136 career starts on the field.

A three-time MVC All-Defensive Team selection, Abi Chipps finished 2024 batting .344 with a team-high 56 hits and 32 runs scored, while recording 12 stolen bases. An elementary education major, she has a 4.0 grade-point average. In her time at ISU, Chipps has also been named to the All-MVC First team, MVC All-Tournament Team, MVC Honor Roll and is a prior recipient of the MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award. In her junior season, Chipps was honored as the NCAA's toughest player to strike out.
