ST. LOUIS – Indiana State track and field student-athletes
Elias Foor and
Rachel Mehringer earned MVC weekly honors following record-setting showings at the Gibson Invitational, as announced Thursday by the conference office.
Foor was named the MVC Men's Field Athlete of the Week for the third time this season, while Mehringer was tabbed the MVC Women's Track Athlete of the Week.
Foor continued his standout season at the Gibson Invitational, finishing as the top collegiate athlete in two of the three events he competed in. His top mark of 62.16m (203-11) in the invitational section of the hammer throw moved him up to fourth in program history in the event, and he also added a first-place finish in the discus with a mark of 56.81m (186-05). Foor also placed seventh in the javelin, an event he hadn't competed in since last season prior to the weekend, finishing with a top throw of 50.24m (164-10).
The only athlete to rank in the top 10 in the MVC in all four throws events, Foor owns top-five marks in the MVC in the discus (first), hammer throw (second) and shot put (fifth) while also ranking seventh in the javelin after one meet. Foor's mark in the discus ranks first in the Great Lakes region, 10th in NCAA East Region qualifying and 17th nationally, while his mark in the hammer throw is 10th in the Great Lakes region, 35th in NCAA East Region qualifying and 73rd nationally. He also ranks in the top 20 in the Great Lakes region in the shot put and javelin.
Mehringer shattered Indiana State's school record in the 100m as part of a standout weekend at the Gibson Invitational. Competing at the Gibson Track and Field Complex for the first time as a Sycamore, Mehringer ran a wind-legal time of 13.38 in cold conditions to set the school record in just her fifth outdoor collegiate meet. Mehringer's time beat the previous school record, which had stood for a decade, by one-tenth of a second. She also clocked a 200m time of 25.32, her second-fastest in the event in her career.
Mehringer ranks first in the conference in the 100m hurdles, running the only time under 13.50 in the MVC. Her hurdles time also ranks fourth in the Great Lakes region, 33rd in NCAA East Region qualifying and 60th nationally in the event. Mehringer's 200m time also ranks in the top 15 in The Valley.
Foor's weekly honor was the third of his career, all of which have come during the 2024 outdoor season. Mehringer's weekly honor is her first this outdoor season and the third of her career, as she previously earned two MVC Women's Track Athlete of the Week honors during the 2023-24 indoor season. Indiana State has already picked up seven MVC Athlete of the Week honors this outdoor season after earning 10 weekly honors from the conference during indoor season.
Indiana State has a split-squad weekend ahead, starting Thursday with the Drake Relays. The Sycamores also have their final regular season home meet, the Sycamore Open, Saturday at the Gibson Track and Field Complex
