Indiana State Softball unable to capture victory over Notre Dame

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- Indiana State fought hard, but fell to Notre Dame in Saturday's game at the Marshall March Madness. The Sycamores made a huge comeback against the Fighting Irish, but could not hold on, as they took the 11-9 loss. 

Notre Dame scored two runs in the first inning to take the lead early, and added to their lead in the second inning with home runs by Kronenberger and Kloss to drive in four more runs and advance the score to 6-0 over the Sycamores. 

Indiana State tied up the game in inning four when Hannah Welch was walked with bases loaded, which scored the first run for the Sycamores. Singles by Abi Chipps and Danielle Henning drove in two more runs for Indiana State and a 3 RBI double by Isabella Henning tied up the game 6-6. 

The Fighting Irish took the lead back in the fourth inning where they scored one run on an RBI single by Gaskins to make the score 7-6. Notre Dame scored three more runs in the fifth inning to advance their lead to 10-6 over the Sycamores. 

The Sycamores rallied in the sixth inning where they scored three runs to cut the lead to 10-9. Indiana State connected on five hits in inning six, with hits by Isabella Henning, Kennedy Shade, Abby Robakowski, Kenzie Cornwell, and Lauren Marsicek

Notre Dame added their final run in the 11-9 victory over the Sycamores in the bottom of the sixth inning with an RBI single by Grimm. 

Isabella Henning led the Sycamores in the loss against Notre Dame where she went 3-4 with two doubles and 3 RBIs.  

Megan Asher started in the circle for the Sycamores, allowing seven hits and six runs scored. Lauren Sackett took over the ball in the second inning, striking out three, while allowing zero hits and zero runs scored. Cassi Newbanks (6-6) took the loss in the circle for Indiana State where she went the final 3.0 innings, allowing six hits and five runs scored in the loss.

The Sycamores will play one final game tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. ET against Marshall, which will be live streamed on ESPN+.
