ST. LOUIS – Indiana State track and field athletes Logan Pietrzak and Elias Foor combined to sweep the MVC's Men's Athlete of the Week awards, as announced Thursday by the conference office.
 
Pietrzak was named the MVC Men's Track Athlete of the Week, while Foor was selected as the MVC Men's Field Athlete of the Week.
 
Pietrzak opened the outdoor season with a first-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase at the Ole Miss Classic, crossing the line in 9:17.55. He led for nearly the entirety of the race, taking the lead within the first 800 meters and never looking back to win by more than seven seconds. It marked the second-fastest steeplechase time of his career and was more than a second ahead of his time at the 2023 MVC Outdoor Championships.
 
Pietrzak ranks second in the MVC and first in the Great Lakes region in the steeplechase. His time also ranks ninth in NCAA East Region qualifying and 23rd nationally.
 
Foor opened the outdoor season with arguably the best performance of his Indiana State career, setting personal records in both the discus and hammer throw at the Ole Miss Classic. His mark of 61.72m (202-06) in the hammer moved him up to fifth in program history in the event, while his top throw of 53.77m (176-05) in the discus ranks seventh in program history. Foor managed to place in the top three in the discus and top six in the hammer. He leads the MVC by a wide margin in both events, while also ranking fifth in the Great Lakes reigon in both events.
 
Foor's marks also put him 23rd in the hammer throw and 28th in the discus in NCAA East Region qualifying, and he ranks in the top 50 nationally in both events.
 
The weekly honors are the first career MVC weekly awards for both Pietrzak and Foor. Indiana State earned 10 MVC Athlete of the Week honors during the 2023-24 indoor season.
 
Indiana State returns to competition Friday and Saturday at the EIU Big Blue Classic in Charleston, Illinois.
