TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State track and field held firm among the highest-ranked teams in the Great Lakes region in the most recent set of USTFCCCA region rankings, which were announced Monday.
The Sycamores were ranked seventh on the men's side and 12th on the women's side in this week's rankings.
Led by four event groups that rank in the top 10 nationally, Indiana State checked in at No. 7 in this week's Great Lakes region men's rankings.
Will Staggs (pole vault, 5.50m/18-00.50),
Terrance O'Bannon (60m, 6.66) and
Noah Bolt (weight throw, 20.31m/66-07.50) all rank in the top three of their respective events, while the distance medley relay team of
Ethan Breen,
Tahj Johnson,
Napoleon Hernandez and
Jackson Krieg also ranks third in the region and 12th nationally with its time of 9:50.13 set last week. As a team, Indiana State owns 15 top-10 rankings in the Great Lakes region.
Niesha Anderson continues to hold a top-three ranking in the weight throw (21.36m/70-01.00), leading the way for a Sycamore team ranked No. 12 in the Great Lakes region on the women's side. Also sliding into the top five in the region was the Trees' distance medley relay team of
Morgan Dyer,
Iyanla Hunter,
Halle Miller and
Emma Gresham. The Sycamores feature seven different top-10 rankings in the Great Lakes region, with every event group represented by at least one individual or relay team among the top 10 in the region.
Indiana State jumped 14 spots in the national rankings on the men's side to No. 73, with the Sycamore women ranked No. 87 nationally. The USTFCCCA also released its first set of conference rankings on Monday, with Indiana State rooted to the top on both the men's and women's side in the MVC rankings. Led by
A second straight split-squad weekend awaits for Indiana State, which will send athletes to the GVSU Big Meet, Marian Indoor Invitational and Tyson Invitational Friday and Saturday.
