NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt scored in every inning to take control of Tuesday's midweek contest early as Indiana State fell to the host Commodores at Hawkins Field, 20-4.
The Sycamores (7-1) took their first loss of the season on a windy day in Nashville as ISU was unable to hold the Vanderbilt (6-3) bats at bay. Eight of Vanderbilt's nine starters in the lineup recorded hits, all nine scored runs, and seven drove in RBIs as the Commodores utilized a complete offensive effort in the win.
Mike Sears powered Indiana State's offense with a three-run home run in the top of the fourth inning for his first big fly of the season. The ball measured out to 460-feet off the bat in one of the longest home runs off the bat of a right-handed hitter at Hawkins Field scoring
Parker Stinson and
Adam Pottinger to put ISU's first runs on the board.
Luis Hernandez and Pottinger connected on back-to-back doubles in the top of the fifth inning combining for ISU's final run in the contest as the Sycamores fell to 4-10 all-time against Vanderbilt with the loss.
Brennyn Cutts (1-1) took the loss on the mound after going the first inning allowing three hits and two runs while striking out one.

Cole Gilley,
Brayden Lybarger, and
Adam Berghorst also pitched on Tuesday as the Sycamores staff struggled surrendering eight walks and two hit-by-pitch against four strikeouts in the game.
JD Thompson (2-0) went the first 6.0 innings in the shortened game allowing eight hits and four runs while striking out five. Andrew Dutkanych IV went the final frame to close out the game.
Jacob Humphrey, Camden Kozeal, and Troy LaNeve all homered for Vanderbilt as the Commodores connected on 17 hits in the midweek win.
