Sycamores complete 2-0 weekend with road win over Bradley

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State shot a season-high 50 percent from the field Sunday afternoon, as the Sycamores defeated Bradley 74-67 inside Renaissance Coliseum.

Mya Glanton led the Blue and White in scoring with 20 points, while Kiley Bess had 18 points and nine rebounds. Chelsea Cain finished with 17 points, five assists and four rebounds, while Ella Sawyer registered her second career double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Indiana State attacked the paint early and often, taking a 17-9 lead after the opening quarter thanks to 12 points between Glanton and Cain in the first 10 minutes. Glanton had 14 by halftime, which allowed the Sycamores to weather Bradley's second-quarter run to take a one-point lead into the locker room. The Sycamores and Braves were neck-and-neck until the fourth quarter, when Indiana State went on a 12-3 run to begin the final frame to take a double-digit lead. Indiana State's defense kept Bradley's 3-point shooting without a basket from behind the arc in the final 10 minutes to seal its second straight win.

First Half
Indiana State's first five baskets came in the paint, as the Sycamores exerted their will inside early on to take a 10-6 lead. The Trees extended that lead with a three-ball from Sawyer to kickstart a 7-0 run to end the period. Glanton and Cain tacked on baskets before the frame ended, as the Sycamores led 17-9 after the opening 10 minutes.

Bradley worked its way back into the contest with a 7-2 run to begin the second quarter, though six points from Glanton in the first three minutes of the quarter kept the Sycamores in front. The Braves pulled ahead by three midway through the quarter, but back-to-back threes from Cain and Bess put the Sycamores ahead 33-30. Cain followed with another basket, and Bess added a layup inside the final minute, as Indiana State took a 37-36 lead into the intermission.

Second Half
Glanton connected on a pair of early baskets in the third quarter, and Bella Finnegan added a trey as the Trees remained ahead 44-41. Asia Donald tacked on a 3-pointer from the top of the key midway through, and a three-point play from Bess made it 52-48 in favor of the Sycamores with less than three minutes remaining in the quarter. Free throws from Sawyer and Bess helped the Trees cling to a 56-53 lead heading to the fourth quarter.

Indiana State broke things open in the fourth quarter, starting with a layup from Bess on the opening possession of the period. Cain connected on a 3-pointer to start a 10-0 run for the Trees, with Glanton and Sawyer also adding baskets for the Blue and White during the run. Indiana State's lead grew to 68-56 following a fastbreak layup from Sawyer, but Bradley battled back to get within five late. Indiana State's defense held Bradley without a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter, allowing the Sycamores to prevail 74-67.
