MEMPHIS, Tenn.- Indiana State softball split a pair of games on the second day in Memphis Tenn. Indiana State won their first game over Memphis and fell to Tennessee Tech on Saturday night.
Game One: Indiana State 3, Memphis 2
The Sycamores put two runs on the board in the second inning to take the early lead over the Tigers. Danielle Henning led the Sycamores in batting where she went 4-4 in game one. Isabella Henning connected on a 2 RBI double in the second inning to put the first run on the board for the Sycamores. Kennedy Shade drove in the second run on an RBI single to advance the lead to 2-0.
Memphis rallied in the fifth inning where they put one on the board with a solo home run by Zoe Adebayo to cut the Sycamores lead to 2-1. The Tigers tied the game 2-2 in the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly by Madison Berner.
Danielle Henning connected on her fourth single of the game in the seventh inning followed by a RBI double by Kennedy Shade to take the lead back with a score of 3-2.
Lauren Sackett took the win in the circle for the Sycamores where she went 6.0 innings with six strikeouts while allowing only one hit and two runs scored over the Tigers. Megan Asher took over the ball in the final inning where she closed out the victory recording two strikeouts.
Game Two: Tennessee Tech 8, Indiana State 5
Indiana State held the lead 2-1 over Tennessee Tech until the seventh inning where the Golden Eagles scored seven runs to take the lead 8-2.
The Sycamores got the lead early in inning one where Abi Chipps was walked, and Isabella Henning and Kennedy Shade both connected on singles to load the bases for Indiana State. Abby Robakowski started the scoring for the Sycamores in the first inning with a 2 RBI double to score Abi Chipps and Isabella Henning to take the lead 2-0.
Indiana State held the lead 2-0 over Tennessee Tech until the sixth inning with an RBI single by Sofia Carroll to cut the Sycamores lead to 2-1.
Tennessee Tech took over in the seventh inning where they recorded four hits and scored seven runs to take the lead 8-2 over the Sycamores.
The Sycamores rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning, but fell short to the Golden Eagles. Luci Kapelka started the rally when she connected on a double to center field. Abi Chipps, Danielle Henning and Morgan Goodrich all drove in runs in the final inning, but the Sycamores came up short with a score of 8-5 and recorded their first loss of the weekend.
Hailey Griffin started in the circle for the Sycamores where she recorded three strikeouts while allowing four hits and one run scored over the Golden Eagles. Cassi Newbanks took over the ball in the sixth inning for Indiana State where she recorded one strikeout while allowing three hits and seven runs scored. Annie Waggoner closed out for the Sycamores allowing only one hit in the loss.
