ISU brawls with the Bulldogs in front of second-straight sellout crowd

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Indiana State men's basketball returns to the Hulman Center on Saturday, February 3 in the highly anticipated contest against Drake University. The game tips at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN2 and 105.5 The Legend, and is tabbed as the No. 9 Game of the Week to watch by Andy Katz.

Series History
Indiana State looks to stop a two-game skid against Drake as the Sycamores host the Bulldogs in Hulman Center for the first time since November 30, 2022. In the meeting in Des Moines earlier this season, Drake defeated Indiana State 89-78. The Bulldogs hold the lead in the series 50-48; ISU holds the lead when playing in Terre Haute 33-13, and Drake leads when playing in Iowa 33-16.

About Drake
Drake is in their 6th season with Coach Darian DeVries at the helm. Coach DeVries owns a 72.9% winning percentage. The Bulldogs currently sit second in the MVC. Drake was selected to finish first in the conference with 24 points. Drake in the 2022-23 season finished 27-8, 15-5 MVC. Drake earned convincing wins in the MVC Tournament and won the championship 77-51 over Bradley. Four Bulldogs currently average 10.0+ PPG: Tucker DeVries (20.3), Atin Wright (14.1), Darnell Brodie (12.0), and Kevin Overton (11.8).

Last Time Out - Indiana State
Indiana State men's basketball secures its sixth-straight victory and the regular-season sweep over Belmont University with the Wednesday night win, 78-72, from the Curb Event Center in Nashville.

Isaiah Swope led the scoring for Indiana State with 17 points, knocking down five three-pointers while recording three rebounds and three assists. Jayson Kent recorded a double-double on a near-perfect night with 14 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Kent shot 5-for-6 with his lone miss coming from beyond the arc.

Robbie Avila scored 12 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and tied the game-high with five assists. Ryan Conwell also tallied 12 points, recording five rebounds and dishing out two assists. Julian Larry rounded out the five Sycamore scorers in double figures with 10 points, also securing five rebounds and three assists. Xavier Bledson chipped in eight points and Aaron Gray with five in only six minutes of action.

Last Time Out - Drake
Darnell Brodie's dominating play inside and some steady free throw shooting carried the Drake men's basketball team to its 17th home victory, 81-70 over a feisty Valparaiso team at the Knapp Center on Wednesday night. Brodie led the Bulldogs with 19 points and pulled down a career-high 18 rebounds, the most by a Valley player this season. It was the 11th career double-double and fourth this season for the big guy, who made 7-of-8 shots and scored 13 points in the final 9 minutes to help break the game open. Tucker DeVries added 17 points, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals and Atin Wright scored 14 with four three-pointers. Kevin Overton contributed 12 points and Carlos Rosario matched his career high with 10 points.

February 3 Activities
Indiana State is hosting Drake on February 3 as part of Alumni Weekend. During the game, men's basketball alumni will be recognized.

At halftime, Indiana State will be retiring Jersey No. 44 for John Sherman Williams. Inducted into the Indiana State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2008, Williams is second all-time in ISU history in career points (2,374) and 10th in career rebounds (629). He recorded 81 consecutive games scoring in double figures and ranked fifth in the NCAA in scoring (25.38) in 1985-86. He would go on to play in the CBA for the Rockford Lightning (1986-87) and the Wyoming Wildcatters (1987), while also playing in the WBL (1987-91) and with Athletes in Action (1991-95).

The February 3 game is also one of two annual Blackout Cancer games at Indiana State. The Sycamores will wear special black jerseys with pink striping as their official game uniform. Proceeds from the February 3 game will support the Rich and Robin Porter Cancer Research Center here at Indiana State with funding going toward the continued efforts in creating a premier training center for the next generation of cancer researchers. Fans encouraged to wear black as the Sycamores take on UIC for the game on February 24.
