TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State baseball's
Henry Brown was named this week's Mark Clinkenbeard Construction ISU Student-Athlete of the Week as announced by the athletic department on Monday afternoon.
Brown came up clutch with the game-winning hits in both of Indiana State's wins over Louisville and UConn to start the 2024 season. The redshirt sophomore hit .429 from the plate with a 1.500 on-base plus slugging percentage, while scoring two runs and driving in five RBIs. Brown is tied for the Sycamores hit lead through the first two games while leading ISU with a pair of extra-base hits.
The Evansville, Ind. native came through in the clutch in the opener against Louisville with a key three-run home run in the seventh inning. Trailing 7-5 with two outs, Brown connected on the go-ahead three-run home run over the wall in centerfield scoring
Grant Magill and
Dominic Listi to give ISU the lead for good. Previously, Brown connected on an RBI single in the sixth inning scoring Listi to tie the game up at 4-4, before scoring the then-go-ahead run on
Randal Diaz's RBI single.
Brown connected on another clutch hit in ISU's 2-1 win over UConn in a battle between 2023 NCAA postseason teams. With ISU holding the 1-0 lead, Brown connected on an RBI double to left center deep enough to score Listi to provide much-needed insurance in the Sycamores' eventual 2-1 win over the Huskies.
Brown has an active five-game hitting streak and eight game on-base streak dating back to the end of the 2023 season.
The Mark Clinkenbeard Construction ISU Student-Athlete of the Week will be announced every Monday afternoon throughout the 2023-24 athletic season.
