TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State track and field remained at No. 1 on both the men's and women's side for a second straight week in the MVC ratings index, which was unveiled Monday by the USTFCCCA.
The Sycamores were also ranked sixth on the men's side and 13th on the women's side in this week's Great Lakes region rankings.
Indiana State features four event groups ranked in the top 10 nationally and six in the top 30 on the men's side. The Sycamores' depth has been on full display since the start of the season, with the top mark in the conference in seven different events.
Will Staggs (5.52m/18-01.25) continues to be among the nation's leaders in the pole vault, while
Terrance O'Bannon ran a career-best 6.63 in the 60m at the Tyson Invitational. The Sycamores' distance crew also added strong showings from
Logan Pietrzak (14:15.42 in the 5000m, second in program history) and
Jason Dworak (8:12.43 in the 3000m, sixth in program history) while the throws group continues to rank in the top 10 nationally in both the shot put and weight throw (ninth in both).
The Trees also feature three women's event groups ranked in the top 40 nationally, with the Sycamores' pole vault (27th) and high jump (29th) groups leading the way. Indiana State features the conference leader in the 60m hurdles (
Rachel Mehringer, 8.42) and weight throw (
Niesha Anderson, 21.36m/70-01.00).
Erica Barker ranks in the top five in program history in both the 3000m (9:38.99) and 5000m (16:49.68), while the Sycamores feature top three marks in three of the four jumps events.
Indiana State also found itself ranked No. 74 in the nation on the men's side and No. 93 on the women's side.
Indiana State returns home for its final meet before the MVC Indoor Championships, playing host to the ISU Open Saturday afternoon.
