TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Indiana State men's basketball earned its first national rankings since the 1978-79 season, ranking #23 in the
AP Top 25 and #24 in the
USA TODAY Coaches Poll.
In this week's rankings, ISU is positioned at No. 23 with 209 points in the AP Top 25, just behind the University of Kentucky. In the Coaches Poll, ISU earned 106 points for the No. 24 spot, just behind the University of Virginia.
The Sycamores have been slowly climbing the rankings, earning the highest amount of points last week in both polls. In the national polls released on February 12, Sycamore Basketball received 53 points in the AP Top 25 and 45 in the Coaches Poll.
On February 4,
CBS Sports released its top 25 which featured the Sycamores holding the No. 22 spot, giving ISU its first crack inside a top 25 poll this season. This week, ISU jumped to No. 19.
In the
mid-major poll, Indiana State remained on top for the third-straight week. The Sycamores received 24 first-place votes and a total of 763 points, 28 points ahead of Saint Mary's.
These rankings came after the Sycamores completed another 2-0 week, winning at home against Valparaiso 101-61 and earning a road win at Missouri State, 73-71. ISU hosts Illinois State on Tuesday and travels to Southern Illinois on Saturday.
