TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State secured a five-game win streak on Saturday afternoon with a home victory against the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy inside Hulman Center, 101-53.
Camp Wagner got the scoring underway for the afternoon with a three-pointer just off the right wing. After a putback layup by
K'mani Doughty, Doughty in the next possession dished a pass off to
Markus Harding in the lane for a two-handed slam. The Sycamores opened the game scoring 11 unanswered, with the first UHSP basket coming at the 15:30 mark.
Jahni Summers entered out of the media timeout and made a left-corner triple off the pass from
Jaden Daughtry, who also entered after the break. Summers started the game 4-for-4 from downrange, connecting on his fourth three-pointer from the left wing at the 11:11 mark off the assist from
Josiah LeGree. The Sycamores led 32-13 at the media timeout at 9:39.
UHSP crossed the 10-point mark off a triple with 11:26 mark, but the Sycamores went on an 11-2 run with six points in under 60 seconds from layups by LeGree and
Bruno Alocen and a second Harding dunk.
In no better fashion, the first bucket out of the media timeout for the Sycamores was another Harding two-handed rim-rocker following a steal and pass-ahead by
Jayan Walker.
The Eutectics ended their five-and-a-half-minute drought with no field goals on a right-handed driving layup at the rim with 4:41 to play, but the Sycamores still held a 47-13 advantage. Just before the final media break in the half,
Samage Teel finished a layup at the rim to put the Sycamores up 30, 47-17.
Summers joined Harding in the dunk party with a steal and breakaway two-handed slam. Teel ended the half with a layup to give the Sycamores a 37-point, 56-19 into the locker room.
Indiana State shot 63.9% from the field in the first half with a 44.4% clip from deep.
The Sycamores and Eutectics went back-and-forth to open the second half. The Sycamores shot 71.4% (5-for-7) and UHSP went 5-for-10 (50.0%). Harding and Doughty combined for eight-of-13 points for Indiana State in the first 4 ½ minutes of play in the half.
Summers kept his hot performance on display, scoring on back-to-back possessions. Daughtry secured a defensive rebound and passes ahead to Summers for a powerful one-handed slam, and on the very next possession he drained his fifth three-pointer from the left wing. One minute 20 seconds later, Summers knocked down his sixth three-pointer of the game, putting the Sycamores ahead 79-38 with 11:38 left on the clock.
LeGree showed his defensive prowess by swatting a Eutectics shot out of bounds and in the very next possession had a chase-down block to stop an easy layup for UHSP.
The two teams settled into a scoring rhythm, each scoring seven points with four points coming from two
Merritt Alderink layups, one assisted by LeGree and another by
Tyran Cook. After the Sycamores made some substitutions, Alderink proved to be a force down low by grabbing an offensive board and putting it back in for his sixth points of the game.
Cook and
Aaron Gray made layups, Alderink knocked in a triple, and Cook made another layup to put Indiana State ahead 99-50 with just under 1:45 remaining.
Following a three-pointer by the Eutectics, a
Derek Vorst left-handed hookshot sent the Sycamores over 100 points for the first time since the 2023-24 Sycamores scored exactly 100 points in the NIT Semifinal victory over Utah, 100-90. Neither team scored in the final minute, giving the Sycamores a 101-53 victory heading into the Christmas break.
Jahni Summers scored a season-high 22 points on 8-for-11 shooting from the floor, making 6-of-9 from three.
Markus Harding scored 13 points finishing 6-for-7 from the field with four rebounds and three assists.
Samage Teel finished with 12 points on 5-for-8 shooting.
Camp Wagner and
Merritt Alderink each scored 11 points. Wagner shot 4-for-9 with three three-pointers, and Alderink shot 5-for-7 with four rebounds. On the glass,
K'mani Doughty had a game-high eight rebounds,
Jaden Daughtry had seven, and
Bruno Alocen with six. LeGree finished with a game-high six assists.
