Sycamores open road trip with 199-101 win over Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio – Indiana State claimed 13 of the 14 swimming event wins as the Sycamores topped Toledo, 199-101, on Friday afternoon inside the Student Recreation Center Pool.
 
The Sycamores took both relay titles on the day, while Sahara Visscher (200 Free, 200 Back), Kaleigh Kelley (50 Free, 200 Breast), and Gemma Dilks (200 Fly, 500 Free), claimed multiple event wins to highlight Indiana State's four dual meet win of the season. Erin Cummins, Kalli Agapios, Ali Pearson, Chloe Farro, Raine Boles, and Alexandria Cotter also took home wins on the day as Indiana State opened its two-day road trip with the win.
 
"I'm really proud of how we handled everything today," head coach Josh Christensen said. "Our travel was less than ideal, but we didn't let that impact how we competed this afternoon. We've got another challenging meet tomorrow and I'm looking toward to seeing how we handle it."
 
The Sycamores opened the meet with the quartet of Cotter, Pearson, Boles, and Kelley topping the field in 1:44.66 to take Indiana State's first win of the day. The B Team of Ella Moustgaard, Alexa Szadorski, Sophia Diaz, and Agapios finished third in 1:45.95, while the C Team of Trista Bullock, Bukvic, Raz Harel, and Peyton Heagy finished fifth in 1:50.37.
 
Cummins took her first win of the day in the 1000-yard Freestyle as the sophomore topped the field by nearly 10 seconds in 10:20.14. Haley Halsall finished second in 10:30.06, while Maria Saldana Riebeling was third in 10:32.81.
 
Visscher claimed her first win of the meet after topping the field in the 200-yard Freestyle event. The freshman touched the wall in 1:51.61 to win the event by nearly a full second ahead of Toledo's Janne Slegers. Farro was third in 1:54.62, while Claire Parsons finished fourth in 1:54.78. Rose Parsons rounded out the Sycamores in the group in 2:02.28 to finish seventh.
 
Agapios was first to the wall in the 100-yard Backstroke as the junior topped the field in 58.37. Moustgaard finished third overall in 58.75 with Olivia Diruzza (59.90) and Kate Reeves (1:00.28) placing fifth and sixth respectively. Harel finished the event in 1:51.61.
 
Pearson added to Indiana State's winning ways after touching the wall in 1:04.17 to claim the win in the 100-yard Breaststroke. Heagy was third overall in 1:08.17, while Bukvic finished fifth in 1:09.14.
 
Dilks took home her first win of the day in the 200-yard Fly as the freshman claimed the win in 2:03.95. Diaz was third overall in 2:06.15, while Cotter finished fourth in 2:06.53.
 
Kelley and Szadorski finished 1-2 in the 50-yard Freestyle event to lead the Sycamores to their seventh win of the event. Kelley finished in 23.87, while Szadorski was second in 24.29. Allie Barasch finished fifth in 24.82, while Boles rounded out the group in seventh in 25.30.
 
Daniela Orta Castaneda led the Sycamore divers in the 3M Springboard diving event as the senior posted a six-dive score of 219.15 to finish fourth in the event. Lucia McDougall was fifth overall with 206.33, Brenna Woodruff was seventh in 179.78, and Angelina Damiano rounded out the group in eighth in 137.93.
 
The Sycamores continued their winning streak in the pool in the 100-yard Freestyle as Farro was first to the wall in 51.49. Szadorski (53.00), Agapios (53.69), Heagy (53.99), and Cummins (54.04) finished third, fourth, fifth, and sixth overall in the field, while Allie Barasch took eighth overall in 54.42.
 
Visscher, Claire Parsons, and Diruzza took the top three positions in the 200-yard Backstroke to lead the Sycamores in the race. Visscher touched the wall in 2:03.43 to claim her second win of the day, Parsons finished in 2:05.65, while Diruzza was third in 2:06.54. Reeves finished sixth overall in 2:12.63.
 
Dilks claimed her second win of the day in the 500-yard Freestyle as the freshman was first to the wall in 5:03.77. Halsall was third in 5:07.85, Bullock fourth in 5:15.32, and Rose Parsons fifth in 5:16.64 to round out the Sycamores in the field.
 
Castaneda was Indiana State's top finisher in the 1M Springboard posting a six-dive score of 204.90. McDougall was fifth overall in 201.53, while Woodruff (174.08) and Damiano (150.08) finished seventh and eighth.
 
Toledo picked up their lone win in the 100-yard Fly as Leah Evans held off Boles (57.72) to finish the event in 56.38. Riebeling was third overall in the field for the Sycamores in 58.63, while Harel took sixth in 59.28.
 
Cotter (2:05.67), Dilks (2:07.10), Kelley (2:07.32), and Bukvic (2:11.45) took the top four positions in the field in the 200-yard IM to complete an Indiana State sweep in the event.
 
The Sycamores closed out the event taking the win in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay with the team of Farro, Visscher, Cummins, and Szadorski finishing in 3:29.00. The B Group of Riebeling, Heagy, Claire Parsons, and Agapios finished third in 3:33.57, while Boles, Harel, Barasch, and Reeves touched the wall fifth in 3:41.40.
