ST. LOUIS – Indiana State sophomore
Emma Gresham was named the MVC Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year Tuesday morning by the conference.
Gresham carries a 4.0 GPA as an environmental geoscience major and was one of two Sycamores to be named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team, alongside
Erica Barker (3.76 GPA, speech-language pathology (graduate program) / communication sciences and disorders (undergraduate degree)). In addition, Gresham also earned the MVC's Elite 17 Award, which goes to the highest-ranked GPA among all-conference honorees.
Gresham won the MVC Cross Country Championship with a time of 20:09.7, breaking her own program record by 26 seconds and became the first Sycamore to win the MVC Cross Country individual title on the women's side since 2003. Barker also placed in the top-five with a time of 20:31.6, the second-best time in program history, as Indiana State earned a second-place finish as a team on the women's side, the program's best since 1997.
With their respective finishes, Gresham and Barker were both named All-MVC selections for the season, marking the first time since 2015 that Indiana State had multiple all-conference honorees on the women's side. The Sycamores' last all-conference honor in women's cross country prior to this season came in 2021. Indiana State's last MVC Scholar-Athlete Team honoree in cross country also came during the 2021 season.
Indiana State continues its season November 15 at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Norton, Ohio.
