TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Austin Peay made a second-half run in pulling away from Indiana State on Friday night inside the Hulman Center, 74-56.
The Governors (1-2) outscored the Sycamores (1-3) 35-18 over the final 20 minutes of the contest in breaking open a one-point halftime lead thanks to a 26-point, eight-rebound performance from Sa'Mya Wyatt.
Saige Stahl led the Sycamores with 10 points and a career-high 15 rebounds off the bench to pace Indiana State in the loss.
First Half
The teams went back-and-forth early in the contest before APSU went on an 8-2 run to go ahead 15-9 following a Briana Rivera three-pointer and Abby Cater layup at the 6:33 mark in the first quarter. The Sycamores kept the game within one possession, cutting the lead down to 17-16 as
Deja Jones split the defense for a layup at the 3:19 mark.
Indiana State closed out the 8-0 run on
Semie Brar's three-pointer at the 2:21 mark to take the three-point lead, but APSU's Cater made a three-pointer in the closing seconds to give the Governors the 24-23 lead at the quarter break.
The second quarter continued the back-and-forth battle with neither team able to build larger than a three-point lead in the quarter. APSU's Wyatt drove in for a layup off a Sycamore turnover to put the Governors ahead 34-31. The Sycamores held the 37-36 lead with 1:34 remaining on a Stahl layup, but APSU answered in the closing seconds on Wyatt's layup to take the one-point, 39-38 lead into the half.
Second Half
APSU scored the first six points of the second half as Wyatt and Cater helped the Governors to the 45-38 lead.
Keslyn Secrist scored all six of Indiana State's points in the third quarter, including hitting a pair of free throws late to keep it a 53-44 game after the first 30 minutes.
The Governors pressed the advantage to double-digits early in the fourth quarter and held off Indiana State's 9-for-12 performance from the free throw line in closing out the 74-56 win.
Secrist led four Sycamores scoring double-digits with 12 points including going 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
Chloe Williams added 11 points and seven rebounds, while
Queen Ruffin chipped in 10 points and three steals. Stahl added 10 points and 15 boards as the Sycamores held the 18-15 edge in points off the bench.
Wyatt paced all scorers with 26 points for APSU as the Governors shot 53.7% from the floor in the win. Cater added 11 points and four rebounds, while La'Nya Foster added 11 points, six rebounds, five assists, and three steals in the win.

- Saige Stahl recorded her second straight double-double Friday, and has averaged 12 points and 13.5 rebounds per game over the last two games.
- Queen Ruffin scored in double-figures for the first time in her Indiana State career Friday, with seven of her 10 points coming in the first half.
- Chloe Williams scored in double-figures in back-to-back games, marking the first time in her career with consecutive double-digit scoring games.
- Indiana State shot 55.9 percent from behind the arc (5-for-9), with Queen Ruffin and Keslyn Secrist both going 2-for-3 from distance.
- Indiana State was plus-two in rebound margin (36-34), with the Trees also pulling down a season-high 17 offensive rebounds. Saige Stahl had six offensive boards, while the Sycamores converted their extra opportunities into 14 second chance points.
- Indiana State got to the free throw line a whopping 30 times, shooting 70 percent from the charity stripe (21-for-30).
