ST. LOUIS – Indiana State's
Maddie Alexander was named the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week as announced by the conference office on Tuesday morning.
Maddie Alexander had an outstanding week for the Sycamores, helping them achieve a 1-0-1 record in MVC play and remain undefeated at home. Over two games, she recorded an impressive 21 saves, earning a pair of shutouts at Memorial Stadium against Drake and Northern Iowa.
This season, Alexander has tallied nine shutouts and 87 saves. On Thursday night, Indiana State secured a conference victory against Drake, winning 2-0. Alexander reached a season-high of 16 saves in that match, which ties her for fourth in program history for single-game saves. Despite being outshot 24-6, the Sycamores capitalized on their chances to defeat the Bulldogs.
On Sunday afternoon, the Battle Creek, Mich. native once again protected her home field, helping the Sycamores earn a scoreless draw against UNI with five saves.
Alexander leads NCAA Division I for the second time this season in save percentage (.926) and ranks fourth in total saves and ninth in saves per game for the 2024 season.
The redshirt senior goalkeeper was also named this weeks GoGo Squeeze ISU Student-Athlete of the Week as announced by the athletic department on Monday afternoon. Alexander is the third women's soccer player to receive this nomination in the 2024 season.
Alexander's weekly honor is the second of her career and the third MVC nomination for Indiana State women's soccer in the 2024 season.
Alex Lehnert earned Freshman of the Week following her performance in the first MVC matchup against Valparaiso on September 19.
Alexa Mackey earned the first Athlete of the Week honor following her performance in the home opener.
